My problem stems from my inability to do anything the way anybody else does.

I need to mount a DVD player on a wall vertical like. (i allready have the cable box tucked behind the door to the bedroom so you cant see it.) However, becuase of this, i can't use a tray load dvd player.

the perfect solution would be a slot load or vacuum load dvd player. Of course i need it to upconvert as well. (over component would be even better)

My research leaves me with the LG 511-LDA and the pink hello kitty player, (i won't do it). The problem is, i cant find the lda-511 new anywhere.

Does anybody have any suggestions for altertnative slot load players or maybe even a place where i can get the 511-lda?

Find a insignia it is a vertical slot loading player.

look at this thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=689028&highlight=insignia

The insignia would have been my suggestion as well. Another solution is to take any DVD player and replace the loader with a slot-load. - DR

Best line I have read here yet. :)

some tray loader has a lip to allow vertical loading so the disc won't fall out.

dude ... its a curse... in fact, im going to start a thread addressing my TV installation in the bedroom. Why? Becuase i had to go and put it in the ceiling. Why? like i said, i just can't get away from the "one off." everything has to be hard otherwise its just not worthwhile. I do this to myself. ;)

This might be the solution becuase i could not find the Insignia for sale out there new. However, i wonder whether the DVD would be held whereever it needs held in the drive once it does get loaded. Your saying though that these are specifically designed with vertical installations in mind though. right?

This does sound difficult and possibly dangerous so i like the idea allready. It cant be as simple as popping off the case and whippin out the #2 phillips head. Can it?

Pretty much...when it works. Most DVD players are single-purpose computers, hooked up to essentially the same kind of drive used in a PC. There are some issues w/r to getting region restrictions to agree etc, as well as physical fit. You might try finding an LGA-511 which is a slot loader-but DO NOT PUT IT ON IT"S SIDE! Use it in the normal bottom down position or your discs will be all scratched up. And another thing that I've found out from experiance is that slot loaders have a rubber roller that gets gunked up over time and then starts slipping which will leave rub or scuff marks on the bottom of your dvds-then you have to take it apart and clean the roller.

The LGA-511 is different then the LDA-511 im assuming. hmm. The thing is that the whole problem i am trying to solve is that i have to mount the DVD player on its side.

i am hiding everything behind a door.

This is my cable box.... the DVD player woudl be mounted the same way... just a little north.

i cant really find anything in any of the specs that i have looked at that would give me a clue as to whether any particular tray loader has a lip for vertical loading or not.

My mistake-I meant LDA-511-I know you can get that side mounted Insignia player most time off BB's website-it's almost impossible to find in stores-I used to work for BB-so trust me on this one.

just going to throw this out there...

i think this was asked awhile ago and i'll pretty much just repeat what i said. regardless of whether it's the normal tray or a suction loader, i do believe there is a limit as to what angle you can mount it in.

for my dj cd deck, at least, the manual says something about not mounting more than 45-degrees down. i think it has something to do with the laser properly hitting the disk.

i mean, i'm sure it's been done before where dvd players were mounted at 90-degree angles and even possibly upside-down. so i guess you should take that with a grain of salt.

The effect of gravity on light is negligible, there is no physical reason why a drive cannot be vertical:-) We have a vertical CD player mounted on the wall of a room, it works fine. Possibly the drive needs to be designed for this to function reliably.

We briefly had a vertical DVD player from Memorex, the MVD2030. It was a tray-loader, and not very good, but that was not because it was vertical. - DR

It's just progressive scan though.

Momitsu v880(dx)/888(n) uses DVD-ROM drive from PC which has the "lip" allowing vertical holding of disc on loading. Once loaded, it does not matter if your player is vertical or horizontal.
