Have you looked at this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=7270763&&#post7270763. If you're willing to try careful calibration, then go for it. If you don't want to worry about it, try the 970 or some other player.

The 970 is your best option (DLPs are notorious for macroblocking, and the 970 does not have this problem, so it's a no-brainer).

Agree 100% with BillP...even Oppo recommends the 970 over the 981 for the Mits DLP range (and I'm sure most others). They also told me the best result would be to output the Oppo at 720p and let the Mits do the rest.

I wanted to find out from people how the Level 2 Modified Oppo DVD players sound versus Estoteric, Krell, Classe expesive DVD players

especially, I would want to know about the sound quality from the HDMI output
