The subwoofer that intend to use with my developing system is unpowered. The amplifier for the sub is inside of a sony shelf system model number MHC-GX450. Is there a way for me to remove the subwoofer amplifier and mount it to the rear of the sub cabinet so I can use it with the system?

I'm certain I can get the main unit open, but I dont know how I could remove the amp and figure out how to put a digital or analog sub in channel into the amp.

If anyone has experience with something like this, please help.

Just buy the appropriate sized plate amp from PE. It will be much easier to integrate into your new system.

What is PE?

What i could do (so that i could sell the unit when looking to upgrade the speakers) is send the sub out channel into the game input channel on the front of the main unit. This would definately route the signal through the system and into the sub. there is a red/white composite connection in front. would it matter which I put the cable into?

Parts Express. These are the amps I was referring to - link (http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&Webpage_ID=3&CAT_ID=43&ObjectGroup_ID=505&SO=2&CFID=10941887&CFTOKEN=41244811).

And your idea may work as well but I'm not familiar with your equipment.
