View Full Version : Lamps out of Alignment?

I have a 57" Toshiba Rear Projection HDTV. Probably about 4 years old.

The other night, we were watching it and everything was fine. It was turned off. No problems. Later in the evening, my roommate moved the TV to hook up his XBOX360.

The next morning when I get up, and happen to turn on my TV, the LAMPS are no longer lining up.

At the top right side, the GREEN and RED lamps are now misaligned. The left side of the set is fine. Performing Conergence and everything else I can do has yielded no results.

My questions are:

1) What could it be?

2) How did this happen? Did my roommate do this when he moved the TV? He swears that he didn't see it, but it was fine up until this point. However, I concede that it MAY just be coincidence.

3) How would I go about getting this fixed? Roughly, how much is that going to cost me?

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. The TV is now off-limits to everyone until the problem is corrected.

Probably gonna need a repair of the convergence IC's. $300-$400 parts & labor with optics cleaning & calibration.

Any idea what would have caused it, Hammer? Would this happen naturally? or was it a movement thing?

Convergence circuit is the most common rptv failure. Sooner or later they will fail. Lots of times it's due to bad solder joints. In your case, the solder joints were most likely weak and the movement made them worse to a point that it affected the circuit.
