Hello all,

I have been lurking for a while on the forums while I decide what direction to go with HDTV.

I currently have a 32" CRT in a room with many windows directly behind it. Unfortunately, the location on the TV in this room is non-negotiable due to the layout, and in the daytime, the glare can be awful.

I really would prefer a plasma set for a variety of reasons, but should I stick with LCD? I do probably 30-40% of my viewing during the daytime.

I specifically was interested in the Pio 5070 - anyone with one of those in a bright room with windows behind??

Thanks for any thoughts and info...

With a direct light source shining on the X070 Pio's, you get glare. I don't think it's any worse than a CRT, but it is bigger so maybe more annoying. Many of the guys here have tilted them to cut the glare at their viewing area. A swivel base would possibly be able to move the glare from view as well. I did that with my 55" hitachi. I don't have direct windows behind the 6070, but it is in a room that is nothing but windows. If the glare on your CRT is really annoying, you may be better off with an LCD though.

I have big windows and brightness to the side and there can be alot of glare. I either move around, tilt the panel or deal with it. I don't care. I'd rather deal with it and have the plasma for watching stuff in the dark vs. watching that same stuff in the dark on a computer monitor, er, I meant, LCD panel...

Bottom line, a Plasma handles a bright room a little better than a tube TV and is a definite improvement :)

Or you can do what we did. A combination of blinds and drapes provided a terrific viewing environment.

Plasma TVs do at least as good of a job as CRTs, and I would argue there's actually a little less glare. And when the TV is on, you don't notice it.

I had a 37" Sony CRT prior to the 50" Panny PX60U and the glare on the CRT was worse.
