I have searched for a previous thread about homemade Mylars but I can't find it. Has anyone made their own Mylars? If you have could you post how you did it? Would like to make my own but not too sure how to do it. Thanks.

A quick and easy way is buying clear sticker printer paper, finding the logo image you want online, printing it on the clear sticker printer paper, adhering it to a piece of white printer paper and cutting it out. Voilaa self made mylars that look great with backlighting.

StLouG,

The best place to start is with your box. This is where you decide how large your mylar needs to be. It's important to know this before beginning the graphic design process.

After completing the design of your mylar (usually best at 300dpi in CMYK), you can then put it on disk and give it to a Kinko's clerk (or in my preference, a "Ma and Pa" type copy shop) and have them print it onto a mylar sign material so that it can be cut and placed inside your light box.

I've helped a lot of people on this forum with designs and making sure they have the appropriate file formats for the best output results. Granted, I'm a busy guy, but I'll be glad to help you out if you have any questions.

Regards,

Kyle

I designed a marquee with a black background and my theater name on top, and a plain white background for the bottom 2/3rds. I had FedEx/Kinkos print it up.

Then I design my own mylars in Paint Shop Pro, and just print them on transparencies designed for inkjets. The come out awesome and look perfect over the white background. I'll take a picture and post.

A picture would be nice and thanks to everyone for their input.

Kinko's can print the mylars for you once you've created it.
I haven't done this yet so I guess the created file can be in Adobe ai or eps format.
Maybe another format also.

Your marquee almost looks 3D.
Is it two or three sided?
Good job!

MikeFalz,

What format did you save your file in?
Since Adobe bought Macromedia, there really isn't any competition.
I wish someone would come out with affordable software to compete with all of the Adobe software.
