I have had a hard time finding any reviews of the large (70"+) rear projection sets.

I would welcome any comments on who offers the BEST of the big screens.

I have really only looked at a couple of models - Mistubishi 73" and JVC 70". I would love to hear any comments comparing those two if anyone has looked closely at them.

Thanks!!

Well, I am totally scared away from Sony right now. Seems they have some bad quality issues.

Any other thoughts on best 70"+ rear projection set??

Thanks!

If you don't see rainbows, it seems the Samsung is the way to go. From calibrators I've spoken to, the Samsung has better color decoding and more neutral blacks than the SXRD. Also, the SXRDs have had a ton of quality control issues (convergence issues, green blobs, etc,); I don't know if those have been resolved with the XBR2.

Are you implying that the Samsungs have not had tons of quality control issues also? Take a read through the HLS threads or the Samsung warranty problems thread.

I have been reading the XBR2 thread since the beginning and I think there were a few issues related to the fan. I have browsed through the JVC and Mits threads also and each has it own set of reported issues.

If thmarine is scared away from the Sony because of quality control I would suggest not getting a TV as each model has potential for issues.

I went with the Mits 73" and am VERY happy.

I am sure the other sets are nice as well, the JVC 70" is a great deal at Costco for $3k with stand.

Pwiss I agree with you 100% percent.

I would tell the OP this, if you spend enough time in any of the different threads (Mits, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, etc...) then you will undoubtedly find enough reasons to scare you from buying any set. For every person writes about a problem with their Sony or Mits tons of other forum members will post that they have had no complaints or issues. Regardless of what set you wind up selecting myself or a number of other forum member could come over to your house and point out 106 problems/issues with your TV.

Bottom line, pick a set that looks good to you and buy from an ethical dealer that has a written policy that allows returns if you are not happy with your purcahse. This forum is a great source of information, but in the end pick the set you like and that fits your price range.

Personally I debated between the 73" Mits and 70" Sony XBR2 for months. I spent time watching & tweaking both sets side by side on their respective "natural" settings. At the end of the day I felt the colors and overall picture were better on the Sony. I was surprised that I like the Sony better as I had a Mits CRT rear projection TV for the past seven years and never had an issue. My bias was to stick with Mits, but I simply liked the picture on the Sony better.

Thanks all for the responses. Sounds like Sony, Mits, and JVC all have some fans here and it will boil down to which one makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

I am leaning toward the Mits 73", even though the Sony I saw looked good as well. Have not been able to find a JVC 70" anywhere near me to look at (our Costco does not have the large ones here).

Thanks again for your responses.
