Hi everyone,

Just wondering what size door everyone uses into their theatres. I am going to be starting drywall tomorrow so I want to make sure the door is the correct size.

THanks

There is no standard answer to your question. If you were framing, then I would suggest leaving room to install 32" doors. Otherwise, you have to measure the existing opening and buy the largest door that fits...

Mine is bigger than yours!

Actually, when I was building, for some reason (unknown to men) my wife, who really has been nothing but supportive in this HT venture, decided I needed 36" doors.

I am not really sure how she came to this revelation, but by george she was sure she needed to have 36" doors.

I tried at first to assure her that "almost" all furniture would fit thru a 32 in doorway, but she was relentless.

After about 2 minutes of "discussion, " I changed the 32" door to a 36" doorway.
(don't forget to add the extra two inches on the rough out!)

Sometimes you have to know when to fold up!

Good luck on the door and the rest of the build.
Best,
Tom

I was lucky enough to have the room to design in double doors. Two 30" doors open to the theater to the arch and columns. I was looking for that "grand" entrance. I think it worked.

I've framed for a 36" door, which is the very largest door I can stuff into the location. Narrow doors suck to move furniture through. My door is also a right turn at the top of some stairs, so getting furniture in will be extra painful.

I've framed for a 36" door, ...Most of the doors in my house are 36". This is the recommended size for wheelchair access (hopefully I will never need that). But it is also very practical.
