What should my setting be?
Right now on sub:
freq=40to50
Volume 100%
On receiver:
Set to plus
Crossover at 50
Bass peak at -25
Using Pioneer vsx 45tx receiver with Athena F2.2 fronts and
their center speaker C1.2
:) :) :) :)

I don't know the lower range for your Athena's, but that crossover sounds a little low to me, but, I guess it could be fine. Personally, I don't like running the volume at 100%, either, but that is just my preference. Are your speakers set for small or large? Just curious.

Good luck, Frank

All speakers are set to large

Don't, set them all to small.

Get an SPL meter (~$40) and calibrate your system. It is the best investment you will ever make in HT calibration.

I have all large speakers and the receiver calibrated them at large. What is bass peak ? I have it set around -27 is that too
low or high? I don't have an Athena sub but it shows a setting around 40-45 for Athena F2.2 speakers so wouldn't it be the same for a different sub? I have the crossover set the
same on the receiver and the sub is this right?

With the reciever you are using I will agree that your settings for your mains should be set to small. You will gain a little more headroom for dynamic scenes, or tracks, and you also wont overwork your reciever when too much bass is called upon as it will be directed to your sub.
You will have to play with crossover settings to find which one works best in YOUR room, as there is no magical number as suggested by Dolby @80hz setting. For me, 65 seems to be the magic number, and that will vary from user to user, room to room, and gear to gear.
And you should actually have your settings overlapped just a bit so there is no null, or void in the bass. Once again, experiment.

Turn the crossover on the sub to "off". If it can't be turned off, set it to it's highest setting, (180 to 200 Hz). You are using the crossover in your receiver and you don't want duplicate crossovers.

Override the receiver's calibration and set the speakers to "small". This will engage Bass Management. Setting them to "large" disables BM, which is not a good idea with your speakers.

Turn the Volume setting on your sub to about 50%. Now re-run the receiver calibration with just the speaker levels and distance. Keep the distance settings, even if they are not equal to the "actual" distances. Disable the size settings and the EQ stuff. If the crossover comes up as anything other than 80 Hz, reset it to 80.

If your system doesn't sound 100% better, I would be very surprised.
