Adumbration

Last night while I was watching a movie, the blue in the upper left, and lower portion of the screen sudden went off track and is now an inch or so higher than the green and red.
In the upper middle and right, and in the middle of the screen, it's still right on target.
I tried using the convergence menu to adjust. The screen is laid out like:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
I cannot adjust the blue horizontally in 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, but everything else works normally.
I've been a happy owner of this Toshiba 55H70 for 6 years now, but this is a concerning development.
I'm trying to get a better idea of what the problem might be so that I can determine roughly how much this will cost to repair. That will help me determine if it's simply time to buy a new set.
For the heck of it, I went to a nearby AV store this morning (Magnolia Hifi), and I was disappointed with what I saw. When I researched buying a HDTV 6 years ago, I was really impressed with what I saw in the stores. Watching an HD broadcast on the Pioneer Elite was like looking through glass at the actual event. But the new TVs, mainly the thin LCD and Plasmas, all have digital artifacts that really stand out and are rather distracting. They didn't have a lot of RPTVs, but the most attractive unit I saw was an RPTV, the Sony KDS-R60XBR2, which I understand uses LCD technology, but still looked more film like and natural than any of the LCDs or Plasmas. The odd thing was that at 60" it was one of the largest sets, but was also one of the less expensive sets.
What happened? Did everyone get obsessed with thin size instead of PQ while I was away?
