Is it possible to connect my Mac to my HT system to get 5.1 sound? Thanks. As an aside, I just started using DVDpedia - what a nice interface.

Please read the Mac FAQ for the details. chefklc 03-24-07, 07:15 PM Well, two things work in conjunction for 5.1 Mike, I'm not sure if this is covered in that thread: First is, does your Mac have built-in digital audio out? If it does, and all the newer Macs do--then you just plug in an optical minijack adaptor, then connect to your AVR with a regular optical cable. If you have an older Mac, without built-in digital audio, something like a G4 PowerMac or a G4 Mac mini, then you'll need an external firewire or USB M-audio device in order to get 5.1 DD/DTS. Second thing is, the software you're using, the particular application you're running, has to allow 5.1 to pass through to your AVR. And that's not a given. Are you talking 5.1 from a dvd? Which software player or front end? mikey1023 03-25-07, 12:52 AM Thanks, guys, for the heads-up about the FAQ. I saw that after I posted. I think my MBP Core Duo has the digital out - I'll have to check that out. I'm hoping to use the Apple DVD player to play back ups of my DVD ripped using MacTheRipper. Cheers. Mike |
