I have a WS-65857 106624 bought in 2002. Currently I am getting red and green shadows. I do the converge and the vertical red and blue line do not move when I hit the adjust. Based on what little I know I think it is a Convergence ic or something.
I think it is a bad convergence output IC 's
Where do I get a service manual?
Does anyone know where these are located at on the unit?
How would I find out the part # Is it STK392-570?
Last:
If I get into this and feel I cannot handle do you know what would be an estimated price to have someone take care of it?

Around $300-$400 parts & labor with optics cleaning. The STK's are large black chip(s) mounted on huge finned heatsinks. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=stk392&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi

I purchased (2) STK392-570 for $8 each plus shipping. Of course they were complete crap and don't work..
DON'T BUY FROM THIS SITE; THEY OFFER NO WARRENTY OF ANY KIND. THE PRODUCT THEY SOLD ME IS SH*TE AND THEY PROBABLY KNOW IT.
BIG WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY PROBABLY COUNTERFEIT OR REJECT PARTS
EDIT [ Please work with the vendors customer service or your credit card company to recify this situation]

We have reviewed some of the comments regarding our products and
appreciate the opportunity to respond.
Here are some facts regarding Bluestar and our products:
1) Bluestar International Components was established in 2000. We do
have a 30 to 60 Day warranty on all products based upon the product
type. Our STK series have a 60 day warranty.
2) We do not sell counterfeit or "reject" parts. In the event that a
part is obsolete or otherwise no longer manufactured, we will then
offer a generic product. We feel this is an asset to the repair
industry because it enables service centers to continue to offer and
extend "end of life" support to their customers.
3) We have sold several thousand STK392-570 and have received one
complaint. We ship the parts with the good faith that they will be installed by an experienced and qualified technician.
If there are any concerns regarding the integrity of the parts you
purchased from Bluestar, you may return them to us. Our goal is to
have open communication with the repair community and provide quality
parts with reasonable pricing. A proven generic alternative is a cost
effective method for any service center today to compete with the
downward pricing pressure of all consumer electronic products. It
allows the service technician to offer an alternative to the customer
to repair rather then replace, helping the repair industry thrive.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. We stand behind our parts.

I strongly suggest that anyone attempting to perform a convergence repair read the threads that I have created at
http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/manufacturers-service-support/5600-crt-based-rptv-convergence-repairs.html
I have not dealt with the vendor in the post above, but the pricing is typical of other supplers that have been known to provide inferior quality parts. Most of the reputable suppliers (even those known for low prices and selling thousands of these) who go to great pains to confirm the source of their parts are charging at least several dollars more. My question to Mr. Martel would be, how do you know that your ICs are actual Sanyo first run supply and not counterfeits nor sub-par parts that have made their way back into the market? More well known vendors than your company appear to have been fooled in the past.

Very nice write-up. My only question is when can we make it a sticky HERE? I am tired of the multiple & daily convergence blown newby threads. I'm just gonna start linking them to that other site.

I offered to help create a service related forum here, but it was rejected, so I put it there. Just link to it. I suspect the mods here were afraid of the possibility of lots of bitching about manufacturers. Can't imagine that it could be any worse than it is already. Some of the threads here are downright nasty. At HTS we try to stick to facts and keep the vitriole and nastiness in the trash bin.
