I plan on transporting the set upright in the rear of my pickup. I am traveling about 40 miles. I really don't know how sturdy the mirror is or how well it is mounted. Would it be better to lie the set on its back to keep the mirror for breaking loose? I need to move it tonight so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most manufacturers recommend transporting them in an upright position only. I know when I first got my JVC I accidentally put one edge on top of the power cord for a few days and just that little thing twisted the picture noticably. It gradually strightened itself out but it shows just how delicate those things are.

If it was me I'd get as much cardboard as I could find and duct-tape up a box, with multiple layers underneath plus blankets. Vibration is your enemy, and jolts are even worse. Good luck.

Definitely keep the unit upright. Do NOT lay it down on its side. Other than that, just drive slow and look out for pot holes!
