I have a quick AppleTV question. Please don't laugh. Do I need a wireless router for this to work? Or is it sufficient to just have my Airport (on my MacBookPro) turned on so that the AppleTV can see it?

People who have wireless capability built in to their Macs can use that to creat a wireless network. Under your Airport icon in the menubar, select "Create Network" and enable it to broadcast. While it says computer to computer, I don't know why this wouldn't work for the appleTV. I set up wireless networks this way in offices all the time for folks with laptops. I suppose it would probably be better to just add in a wireless router, but it saves 50 bucks.

Let us know if it works with your appleTV. I haven't heard of anyone trying this yet, though I had assumed that people would--it's just not an obvious feature of wireless on the Mac.

the only reason that this wouldn't work is if apple intentionally disabled it. Mac's are pretty good about creating ad-hoc networks and i would assume this wouldn't be any problem for ATV.

This will work if you "share" your ethernet connection via Airport. It will not work by just creating a "Computer to Computer" network from your laptop.
