View Full Version : PS3 Store - Movie Trailers - Sound format?

For those of us that DON'T use HDMI are we missing something with most trailers from the PS3 Store?

I just downloaded Transformers and another (can't remember it now) this week and noticed that via TOSlink audio I only get Dolby Pro-Logic applied to the source no DD?

Do some trailers come only in Dolby Pro-Logic (either derived from 2 channel stereo or 2 channel PCM, Dolby TrueHD)? Some in Multi Channel PCM and some in Multi Channel DD? Of all the trailers I have DL I have seen ONE in DD - I think it was Ghost Rider if I recall correctly.

Can anyone verify that the US version of the Transformers is in 2 channel Stereo, Dolby? or PCM 2.0 etc?

Also why can't I download the TRUE HD version of the trailer ? Becuase I am not using HDMI and the PS3 knows that? There is a 44gb download on the download page when I chose Full HD but I end up with 117mb instead?

Thanks.

Every trailer I've downloaded from the PS Store has been two-channel audio. Not sure why they aren't using 5.1 tracks...

You are actually downloading the Full HD version. The HD file itself is 117mb, the 44gb you are looking at refers to how much free space you have on your hard drive. Haha I know cause I made that same mistake first time I downloaded something too (WTF 44gb download?!?! I'm only going to have 16 gb free and when will this freaking download ever finish were the two things going through my mind).

Also I can confirm the files are not being encoded in 5.1 DD like you have correctly stated. Also, I too have only gotten the 5.1 DD on the ghost rider trailer, everything else is PLII.

They're all PLII?

My reciever says 2channel PCM 48 on each one?
Shouldn't it switch to PLII?
I use optical.

I'm a newbie with this audio stuff... should it automatically switch to it? Or do I have to manually?

You have to tell your receiver to use Pro Logic II, it probably does not just activate it.

Ok, that's what I thought.
I was afraid that I was not getting the proper audio for a second.

However, is it odd that it tells me the trailers are PCM 48?

No, two channel PCM is quite common.

jling84 -

Thanks. That is a "duh" for me. I didn't even think about HD space left when looking at the DL numbers. Oh soo late when downloading...

So what makes Ghost Rider so special that it got a 5.1 treatment and no others have?

Blood Diamond is also in 5.1, my wife and I watched the trailer last night. After watching it we are now thinking about getting it if it will be on Blu-ray

Ok, so everyone seemed to agree that Ghost Rider is in 5.1. As well as Blood Diamond.

I downloaded both tonight (the best one available, one was HD, one was True 1080p HD) and my receiver still says it's just PCM 48?

I know it's supposed to switch to Dolby Digital when it gets that source.
When I look at the info on Ghost Rider it doesn't tell me the audio KBPS, but for Blood Diamond it says the standard 128 KBPS that all the other videos have...

Any one know what is wrong on my end?
