Any public radio listeners out there who like This American Life? Thanks to Comcast's Variety Pack deal, I have premium channels for the first time ever. And unlike Penn & Teller's ********!, TAL is in HD.

Last Thursday the TV version of the show premiered on Showtime at 10:30 PM (although they show it constantly (http://www.sho.com/site/thisamericanlife/schedule.do)). Ira Glass was on Fresh Air (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=7600694) not too long ago talking about it.

I thought the TV version was good, and faithful to the radio show. Also, it sounds silly but being able to air profanity is a nice touch, since people in everyday life do use it.

If you don't have Showtime, you can catch the first episode online:

I caught this last night and was very surprised. I hadn't heard of it and didn't know it was a series but last night's episode was very good. I started to watch it and I saw a guy setting up a booth that read "Talk to an Iraqi." I thought it was very gimmicky at first and was going to change the channel but I kept watching and before I realized it, had watched the whole thing.

For anyone interested here is more info about the episode:

This is the second season. Last year's fist season was 6 episodes. All very high quality stuff, this is what journalism is supposed to look like.

I missed it last season, but have watched the first two episodes this season. The show is a nice change of pace from my normal tube content. I was impressed by the young boy talking to the Iraqi. He was the most mature of the booth visitors.

But I've now caught up on all the DVR'd episodes accumulated from the current [2nd, apparently] season, and must say that this is VERY FINE WORK indeed! Sorry I missed it when first aired a while back.

Hopefully, it will remain a regularly produced and aired series. Ira Glass' shows on NPR are similarly superb.
