The Denon 2930 uses the same chip as the XA2. The 3930 uses a slightly better chip (but for more money).

Why not just buy the Toshiba XA2? $600- $700 and you get free HD DVD player!

I thought it did. Although I don't pay close attention to what the HD players do with SD discs.

Yes, it does.

You are thinking of the low end model which goes up to 1080i only.

I have a Samsung 57" LCD. Accepts 1080P Native. The XA2s PQ is stunning on this set @ 1080i or 1080P.

Rumor is Samsung is coming out with a $100 Reon chipset player in June, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I think this is real, but $100, samsung wont beat denon 2030Ci, or XA2

I think this is real, but $100, samsung wont beat denon 2030Ci, or XA2If they use a MPEG-2 decoder with comparable performance and properly implement the ReonVX, performance should be identical.

The following players implement Silicon Optix HQV for DVD playback:

Denon 2930ci
Denon 3930ci
Denon 5910ci
Samsung BD-P1200 (Blu-ray player)
Samsung DVD-HD1080P7
Toshiba HD-XA2 (HD-DVD player)

There is no "secret sauce" in Denon DVD players that makes them better than the competition. Denon had the advantage over the competition almost exclusively due to the proper implementation of Silicon Optix HQV technology, which is now coming to other devices. Denon was among the first manufacturers to feature this technology in their products, so they were able to charge a premium.

Given Samsung's track record with video disc players they will find some way to make their upcoming players 2nd string. I hope they prove me wrong. :) All players till now look good on paper but for some reason fall short somewhere to a competitors player using the same tech.
