When I have the TV set to ideal black level then turn the white level down to until there is no blooming the picture is too dark. Is this a problem with other display types aside from CRT?

Greetings

You have to recheck the black level ... and then recheck the white level and so forth. If it's not blooming ... then it's not blooming because it isn't supposed to bloom.

The red line in the car is there for a reason ... and the point of blooming is your TV red line. If you should move past it ... performance falls and life span is greatly reduced.

In the end though ... it's your TV and you gotta do what you gotta do. Accept the trade off and proceed. When the TV dies ... buy another ...

How low do you have to go on the white level scale to avoid blooming? Usually the blooming point on most modern displays is quite high, and I would stay well below that point even. Unless you're trying to view your display in direct sunlight or something, you may be mistaking something else for blooming...
