I just purchased my ps3 and am enjoying it thoroughly, for the most part. They're are just a few issues I keep running into...

While watching Blue Ray discs and DVDs linear PCM sounds really good. The only problem is, many times late at night I like to use headphones as to not keep my roommates up. It seems that HDMI overrides my receiver not allowing me to toggle btw the different audio modes like I can do on my other components(connected via optical). So basically when my headphones are connected I only get the sound that comes out of the right and left speakers in linear 5.1, so i can't really hear most of the dialogue since that usually comes from the center speaker. But say if I had it connected through optical my receiver would automatically change the setting when i connect the headphone jack.

So I found that I can change the BD/DVD audio output settings within the ps3 menu to play bitsteam this works fine with DVDs but with BD it stays in linear PCM as opposed to switching to dolby digital. Is there a way around this. Is there an easier way to toggle btw the different audio formats? Is this just a limitation of HDMI? or is it something a better receiver would allow me to do?

On a side note...when playing resistance in linear PCM my bass comes out really overpowering and poppy unless i toogle off the LFE switch on the back of my subwoofer. Is that something I should be doing whenever Im listening to anything in linear?

Sorry for all the questions. Im new to this.

So im an idiot. I can get BD to play in Dolby digital by setting the ps3 option to play Bitstream. I just had the disc on the PCM track instead of the Dolby track. still would like to know if there is an easier way
