As the title suggests, is RFOM the only game that seems to have some restrictions on it when running on a Jap console?

View Full Version : Which PS3 games are censored/restricted when running on a Jap PS3? MarkH 03-26-07, 02:44 AM As the title suggests, is RFOM the only game that seems to have some restrictions on it when running on a Jap console? WriteSimple 03-26-07, 03:36 AM Where did you read/hear about this? Care to provide a link? fuad MarkH 03-26-07, 04:15 AM While I dont have a link as such handy ATM it seems to be common knowledge that the blood is missing from the game when either using a Jap copy of the disc or another region game on the Jap console. Apparantely using a non-Jap game save will fix. RassilonZero 03-26-07, 07:43 AM common knowledge? this is the first ive heard of it... Its actually more common that the US version has some censorship. eg: in VF5, shun-di's face turns red as he gets drunk in the JPN version. He doesnt turn red at all in the US version. Gradthrawn 03-26-07, 07:55 AM common knowledge? this is the first ive heard of it... Doesn't mean its not common. :p The blood was removed for ratings purposes. Blood would have bumped it up to the next highest age group rating, restricting its sales. To the OP, I have not heard of any other game doing this, yet. MarkH 03-26-07, 08:26 AM [QUOTE=RassilonZero]common knowledge? QUOTE] Yes, for those of us outside of the US who it may affect. Saw enough blood. fuad Gradthrawn 03-26-07, 08:54 AM I played the Japanese copy of the game on a HK PS3. Saw enough blood. fuad Seems to be that the software activates the restriction based on the hardware. For example, imported US copies played on a JP console are still censored, IIRC. It requires a US game save to be used in order to disable it. I would guess the software isn't set to trigger on HK systems. TwinTurboJosh 03-26-07, 09:13 AM Gradthrawn is correct. It doesn't matter what copy of the game you have. The game can tell whether or not it's being played on a US or Japanese console, and adjusts content accordingly. The only games that adjust content currently are Resistance and VF5 I believe. dallow 03-26-07, 10:21 AM What if you change your console settings to USA? In the same way you can adjust it to JPN so that the USA version of VF5 will activate the Japanese commentary. ollin 03-26-07, 10:24 AM Gradthrawn is correct. McDermotX 03-26-07, 10:27 AM True, played my US copy on my Japanese PS3 last year and the blood is removed from the game.......it is down to the origin of the console, doesn't matter what account you are playing on or your console settings.. The only way around it was to get a saved game from someone who had played the Japanese version on a US console.....no issues after that.. The blood is present on this US copy when played on a US console and an EU console....not like there was major amounts anyway.. The upside is, its the only game I've heard of that had this regional determination and it could be worked around :) EDIT: was the VF5 issue relating to Shun on US systems ? TwinTurboJosh 03-26-07, 10:45 AM In the US version of Shun Di he doesn't turn red after taking a swig of his mystery booze. ChrisFB 03-26-07, 10:57 AM In the US version of Shun Di he doesn't turn red after taking a swig of his mystery booze. Maybe they assume Americans can hold their liquor a bit better? Alternatively maybe Shun is drinking O'Douls after exiting rehab with Britney. dallow 03-26-07, 12:38 PM Why would they remove blood from the JPN version? I thought it's only us Americans that get censored games. TwinTurboJosh 03-26-07, 01:32 PM Why would they remove blood from the JPN version? I thought it's only us Americans that get censored games. Not when it comes to violence. Germany is by far the most restrictive of video game violence. Japan isn't crazy about gratuitous violence either. Common knowledge indeed. I've first heard of this awhile ago. wb2fcr 03-26-07, 06:25 PM My Japanese friends tell me "Jap" is considered derogatory. mjcoffey 03-26-07, 11:43 PM My Japanese friends tell me "Jap" is considered derogatory.
