Question - When playing the The Departed on BD on my PS3-I'm getting intermittent audio
w / ( DD5.1). Casino Royale DD5.1 & Kiss of the Dragon ( DTS ) play great but for some reason the Departed will not play DD5.1 through my Sony Receiver. :(

Tried changing the settings within the PS3 but could only get it to come through in Prologic.

FYI - I'm using an Optical cable for sound not HDMI.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I have the same problem. With DD5.1 titles the audio will drop in and out. Especially on the opening BD preview that's shown at the beginning of many Sony titles. I also have a Sony receiver (I should have researched it a lot more when I bought it, which was a few years ago, like I do most things). I don't remember the model number off hand. DTS works wonderfully. IIRC, I've had this problem with DVDs, and other players, as well. The only commonality being the receiver.

Thought it might be the receiver ( it's about 5yrs old ). I guess I need to look into upgrading to a receiver that has an more current updated audio decoding.

Sorry to hear that your having the same problem but at the same time I'm glad to see that it's not just me..... :D

Any suggestions on a good receiver? I'm looking into upgrading my TV from a Mits 55" CRT to a Samsung / Sony 1080P LCD later in the year in order to benefit from HDMI.

We're basically in the same boat. Looking into a 1080p LCD or LCoS display later this year, when the 07 lineup is completely out. And have a ~5 year old Sony receiver. Even have a CRT display. :p From what I hear, Denon, Yamaha, and Pioneer, I believe, make good receivers. Followed by Onkyo, and then Sony. Apparently, they (Sony) use cheaper amps among other parts (non ES, that is)? I'd have to really look into it to say anything with any confidence. I guess what truly matters is does it have the features you want, and does it sound good to you? I’ll be extensively searching through the AVS receivers forum when I’m serious about buying.
