My NBC is Boston leaves a lot to be desired with 2 sub channels so you are not alone

That's an NBC problem. It's nearly as bad OTA.

I agree, I get all local HD from OTA and out of the Big 4 NBC HD for sports is the worst.

All the D* 80-88 DNS HD Channels have audio drop outs.

They have for sometime - its been reported on countless threads.

WNBC-HD looks alright... could be better, but I think it's just D*'s fault. Yes, sports don't look that great on there, but everything is okay, for a D* HD channel.

The only HD-DNS channel that I get is KCBS (Channel 81), and it seems to have taken a real nose-dive in quality recently. OK, so it was "HD Lite" before, but now it looks like it's several notches below that -- it breaks up into blocks at the drop of a hat. I have no way to know if this is the "new way-o-doin' business," or if there's a broken encoder, but whatever, it's pretty unwatchable. To my eyes, I would say this is only being sent at about 8 Mb/s.

Perhaps HDTVFanAtic can get out the analyzer and check this out? It ain't good. The MPEG-4 feed from KPIX is vastly superior -- some blocking, but only during high-stress content.

Watched a rebroadcast of PGA golf on UHD last night. It was MUTCH better than what I saw on NBC on Sunday. Every shot looked great save for the handheld cameras that are not HD. Perhaps HDTVFanAtic can splain that one.

The NY NBC HD feed on channel 82 is constantly suffering from audio dropouts and video macroblocking on my HR10. It has been an on-going problem for more than three months. It's another example of "the best picture and HD quality possible" from DirecTv.

Watched a rebroadcast of PGA golf on UHD last night. It was MUTCH better than what I saw on NBC on Sunday. Every shot looked great save for the handheld cameras that are not HD. Perhaps HDTVFanAtic can splain that one.

He watched the "HD" (mixed HD/SD) coverage of PGA golf on NBC on Sunday.
On Monday he watched the UHD rebroadcast of the same PGA golf coverage.

The UHD broadcast looked better and he's wondering why.

I watched some of the UHD golf replay yesterday, too, and it looked terrible compared to the live NBC channel 11.1 broadcast here in the SF Bay Area. But I guess that's apples and oranges - OTA HD vs. D* HD.

For many, "sucks" is an overused and lazy all inclusive expression that means everything and nothing and is used when there is no desire to express intelligent and thoughtful comments.

I have also noticed this, most recently on the CBS broadcast of the NCAA tournament; on Jay Leno; and once during American Idol last night (channels 81, 83, and 89 respectively). The brief audio dropouts are accompanied by a momentary freeze of the picture. I take it others are experiencing this as well? Thanks.

Last I heard, UHD via D* was broadcast on 110W Transponder 32 statmuxed with ESPN-HD. WNBC-DT is statmuxed on 101W Transponder 29 along with WCBS-DT and several XM Channels.

NBC4 in NY multicasts with 2 SD channels iirc, That limits what is seen OTA in NY and via D* on WNBC-DT which receives it OTA.

WNBC-DT is then again statmuxed with WCBS-DT on D* (both 1280x1080) and then multiple XM Channels. Obviously, WCBS was using high bandwidth from the NCAA Basketball game and thus taking all it could - so WNBC-DT was not getting any additional bandwidth.

As UniversalHD is statmuxed in delivery in its C Band distribution, if the other Univeral Channels needed very low bandwidth during that time - that could have given the distribution feed more bandwidth. Then UHD is statmuxed with ESPN-HD on 110W Transponder 32 - perhaps whatever was on ESPN-HD wasn't using much bandwidth either (maybe it was really a 4:3 with sidewings???? and remember that ESPN-HD is 1280x720, not 1280x1080 like WCBS/WNBC) so UHD was given all the bandwidth it could handle.

If you have these events happen, sure UHD could easily look better than WNBC-DT.

I am curious to know if the HD NY feeds from D* are only getting audio dropouts on the HR10-250? I have HUGE issues with CH88 - FOX. American Idol. Prison Break and 24 are constantly riddled with audio dropouts. I have no issues with CH80 - CBS but the rest are a problem.

um, no....i don't even have D*, and just about every sporting event on NBC that's supposedely in HD, looks like complete @$$, everything looks like it's upsampled 480p widescreen, the golf that's on right now is basically unwatchable through the KNBC-HD coming through my cable AND the KNBC-HD coming through my antenna, both look the same...like sh!t.....i used to think it was a bitrate issue, since KNBC in LA has so many extra/useless subchannels, but the graphics look nice and sharp, it's just that NBC can't do HD production (especially of sports) to save its life, i think the only thing in HD that i've ever seen on NBC that looked good was Conan
