What's the compatibility issue with the Oppo 970?I wasn't sure for a while (I saw issues with both the Oppo and the 480/576p 4:2:2 output from a Meridian G98. Now independently confirmed that there is a chroma upsampling error in the HD1 processing for 480/576p 4:2:2 and 480/576i (4:4:4 and RGB at least; not sure about 4:2:2). There's also 2.5% overscan too... :(

Ok, I tried playing some multiburst patterns on 4 DVD player setups:

2. the Oppo 970 HD (at 480i over HDMI - Crystalio 2 does the scaling) - FAIL

Three of the four players came out clean as a whistle, while the fourth player (the 970HD) was the only player did that not display the higher frequency bursts (above 6.0 mhz) cleanly.

Hmm, interesting. I am having some problems in this regard feeding a VP30 with 970HD/HDMI 480i input. Do you happen to have tested one or more of the following?:

* the Oppo 970 HD (at 480i over Component - Crystalio 2 does the scaling)
* the Oppo 970 HD (at 480i over HDMI, NO scaler, directly to display
* the Oppo 970 HD (at 480i over Component, NO scaler, directly to display

This would show if the problem is restricted to HDMI (first option) and/or would show us if there is some problem in the combination of the 970HD and the C2

I had the same problem with my 970HD feeding directly to the projector from HDMI, component was fine. The problem is with the player, not the scaler. The solution is to change the player's settings from 16:9 Wide/Auto to 16:9 Wide. Solution and explanation given by user GSB in the thread "OPPO Digital DV-970HD FAQ/Braindump," post #4276. The fix and problem was also verfied by OPPO tech support.
