View Full Version : Returning to Dashboard...
abuharabi 03-26-07, 03:05 PM So, I am new to the 360 -- had it about a week. I looked through the manual and even did a google search to see if I could figure out how to get back to the Dashboard if I am done playing a game. As in, I don't want to get up and walk over, eject the game and take it out. It would be nice to simply leave the game in the machine and be able to get back to the dashboard. Thanks for any help.

Hit the 360 button (the round one in the middle) once. It will bring up your sidebar. From there hit 'Y' and you will be taken back to the dashboard.
abuharabi 03-26-07, 03:10 PM Awesome! Thanks a bunch. I knew you could hold the button and it would ask you if you wanted to shutdown, but that was it. Thank you very much.
cheers.
wmschultz 03-26-07, 04:18 PM If you are only getting the shutdown screen, you are holding it too long.

Yeah, holding it is the wrong thing to do altogether.. Just tap it..
assasyn 03-26-07, 04:26 PM You can also tap it any time a message or ach. message comes up and it will bring you to it.

Well, thanks for posting that - that's news to me... there's been plenty of times that I've seen the "achievement unlocked" thing pop on my screen, and I've wondered "now what the hell did I just get that for?"
Thanks

N/P I didn't find that out for a few months. Also game invites and chat requests do the same thing. :)
ooPAYNEoo 03-26-07, 05:12 PM heres one. Is there a way to insert game disc, and NOT auto launch game?
sometimes I'll put a new game in the tray, and leave it open because I don't want to run the game yet... so I have to go back and close the tray when I want to play.... or if I could tap the 360 button and it would close that would be good too.
assasyn 03-26-07, 05:19 PM You can opt out of auto play, but the guide button won't do anything.

You don't have to get back up from the couch to close the tray - you can do that from within the dashboard. There should be "close tray" on the first blade of the dashboard whenever the disc tray is open.

oh, you mean that huge field in the center of the screen that I never thought about clicking on?
Wow I spend so much time using crap complex software at my day job, the simple stuff just whizzes right past me sometimes.
thanks

No, it's actually at the bottom. I think it's on the first blade of the dashboard. If not on the first blade, it's on the "games" blade, but I think it's on the first blade.
It says "close tray" if the tray is open.
If there's a game in the machine and you're on the dashboard (and the tray is closed) it says "play game"
If there's no game in the machine and the tray is closed, it says "open tray"

I think it says it on both the First....ummm (newbie) Yellow Screen and then again on the Green (games?) screen.

Correct. If you have the HD-DVD add on it will be split with the upper half saying close tray/play game.
fjtorres 03-26-07, 08:01 PM Its on the Live, games, and media blades. :-)
And if you *don't want the console to start the game in the drive at bootup time and instead want it to go to the Dashboard, go to the System Blade-->Console settings-->Startup.
Finally, you can control music playback (up to 100 song playlist) from the Dashboard Pop-up. (No such limit when playing music straight from the Media player.)
The interface is simple but it has its subtleties.
They need to post an advanced tutorial video on Live. ;-)
