If this has been answered before, please direct me to the thread.

I am wondering if the PS3 will use a "numchuck" type controller, or something like it, to play Tiger Woods or any golf game for that matter, like the Wii. I love my PS3 with HD. And have no interest in a Wii since it's SD. But I think it would be cool to be able to swing a stick like I was really golfing. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sixaxis has a tilt sensor so it probably won't work. The wii remote has a motion tracker via the sensor bar

The folks at http://www.electricspin.com/ are currently working on getting their golf launchpad to work with the PS3. It allows you to use your real clubs from the driver all the way down to putting in Tiger Woods golf.

I don't think it gets much better than that, of course you do need some room to swing without breaking things. :)

The last thing I want is somebody violently swinging things in front of my $5K flat-panel.

I make the kids use our old rear-projector for the Wii.

Gametrak Freedom: Wii-style Controls for 360 and PS3
>> From in2games.uk.com/in2games.uk.com(2):

Gametrak Freedom (formerly codenamed 'Fusion') is a brand-new control system for next-generation games systems....the most advanced motion gaming system ever created!

Unlike existing products and technologies, In2Games' Fusion system does not rely upon the gamer pointing a controller at the screen or restrict the gamer to limited movements. Instead, it combines patent-pending ultrasonic and RF technologies with 3-axis accelerometers to track the precise absolute position and orientation in 3D space of almost any wireless accessory such as golf clubs, baseball bats, tennis racquets, and bowling balls.

Gametrak Freedom products launching worldwide on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2008, with a wide range of games for next-generation platforms.

From techradar.com: http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/exclusive-new-next-gen-console-motion-control-405477
Squeeballs is the name of the first title in development for In2Games' Gametrak Freedom motion sensing controller.
In2Games is not yet able to confirm if the game will be developed for Xbox 360 and/or Sony's PlayStation 3, but has confirmed that it is launching for next gen consoles soon

There are over 100 minigames in Squeeballs, some of which - such as bowling and balancing style games - show off the apparent responsiveness of the Freedom controller. You can see more for yourself:http://squeeballs.com/ (http://squeeballs.com)

Sony is rumored to be working on another motion controller. All the info we know can be found in this thread. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1019232) If true expect to know more in two weeks or so.

Sixaxis has a tilt sensor so it probably won't work. The wii remote has a motion tracker via the sensor bar
The Sixaxis (and DS3) has both a tilt sensor (gyroscope) and a motion sensor (accelerometer), and it perfectly capable of performing this function. In fact, they developers of Hot Shots 5 said the only reason they didn't include it was that it was too tiring to play an entire round of golf that way.

The only game I know of off the top of my head that offers something along these lines is High Velocity Bowling.

Edit for clairty: The Wiimote also has an accelerometer, but no gyro—tilt has to be inferred from the accelerometer readings, so it tends to be less accurate. The sensor bar provides absolute positioning, which the Sixaxis lacks.
