View Full Version : Sony's warranty - great!!!
jvargasg 03-27-07, 11:16 AM I know you may not be interestd in this as you dont even think in the possibility that your PS3 is going to die. Well I was like that until mine died last week.
After the normal troubleshooting I call Sony and they say they will send me a return service packge, got the box next day (thursday) and then I sent the PS3 back to them on friday morning, they got it on monday morning (ups dont deliver on weekends) and they sent me the new one monday afternoon, which is arriving today before noon.
What comes up to around 5 business days from the day i call for service to the day i got the replacement. and if I had time i counld have done it in 4.
Besides the quick turn around the warranty will reset to today so I have a brand new one year warranty on it, which is saving me around 4 months.
Isn't that great? it is nice to see you actually have good support from the manufacturer
hmm,
I've heard very bad things about it too. I just hope I have your experience should mine ever die
harv405 03-27-07, 04:11 PM The warrenty on all the ps3's is one year?

Mcklein 03-27-07, 06:40 PM when you call the number what other info they need?

pedrojunkie 03-27-07, 07:49 PM I had a pain in the ass convincing their service mine was really broken but once I did, I made the call very late Wednesday Night, got the box on Friday sent it out Friday evening, Got the new PS3 at 9:00am Tuesday Morning.

I don't remember off the top of my head but its all n the white support manual that came with the playstation, its a bit buried, but its in there... Thats where I got it from.
They need the serial number off the ps3 and your contact info, plus when you send it in they need a reciept/p.o.p.
I sent my back to them and got it back within a week.
It is superb.
harv405 03-27-07, 09:47 PM ohh good i got my ps3 about a month and a half ago and thought it was 3 month warranty. that makes me happy and shows sony stands behind their ps3. at least for a year.
of the rare cases of peoples ps3s dying that i've heard of, i've heard nothing but good things about Sony's CS.
I hope mine never dies (*knock on wood*)... otherwise I'll probably have to contact Sony's Japan/asia division to get it serviced. I bought mine when I was Taiwan, so I doubt Sony US division would service it.
Currently seems great, been having it on running folding for a few days now.
mgr_stl 03-27-07, 11:17 PM I've been Folding every night after long Oblivion sessions. I figure now is the time to test its resiliency since it's still under warrantee.
pedrojunkie 03-30-07, 09:09 AM Hmm... seems I spoke too soon, I just got my replacement PS3 on tuesday, but it don't work... So it will take another run around the block to get it replaced yet again, so the quick replacement would have been quick had they sent me a working unit, but since None of my games or blu-rays play on it im thinking it wasn't so quick since I have to do it all over again.
bleh... I just want to finish my season of MLB 07
colossus 03-30-07, 12:43 PM Sony tech-support on the PS3 is excellent....as good as Nintendo's on the Wii.
sethhobrin 03-30-07, 12:51 PM I've experienced this quick turn around as well since I had mine replaced but my BIGGEST FEAR is what do I do when 13 months rolls around and my 600 dollar unit is broken..... How much is it going to cost me to fix and will they eventually allow us who bought ours early to buy an extended warranty through them?
I don't think a 1 year warranty is good enough for a $600 peice of electronics....
Kris Staff 03-31-07, 08:31 PM To those who have made a warranty claim. Does it matter where the PS3 purchase was made? Does it need to be at an official dealer like Best Buy or can it be from an internet store like Frys?
I would assume an Ebay purchase is not covered.
Thanks.

Sure it is.
As long as the person you bought it from on Ebay has the store receipt. Heck, even a gift receipt should be valid.
