I have a little Cyber acoustics Sub which Has no volume Knob (may come in handy for college) (revenge of the bass) I used toi use it with my Emerson stereo by Twisty wiring the bare wire to 3.5MM Cable I made to the Speaker wires.

Ths sub was alway TOO loud even when I had it on a lower volume in which I could just hear my bookshelf speakers and the only way I Could Get the bass to go down was to use the Equalizer which causes the speakers to loose bass.

Just pick up some sort of simple volume control for a couple of bucks from your local Radio Shack and wire it in-line to the sub.
