I picked up the SpyderTV Pro package in order to calibrate the following 3 TVs:
Sharp Aquos 42" 1080p LCD (LC42D62U)
Sony Bravia 46" 1080p LCD (KDL46XBR2)
Sony SXRD XBR 70" Rear Projection (KDS-R70XBR2)
I used the suction cup when calibrating the Rear Projection and used a tripod for the LCDs. The LCDs are mounted on the wall so that makes it a little tricky to get the colorimeter in position, but I was able to get it position on the tripod.
I did notice with the LCD TVs that when the black test pattern was on screen it showed a white outline where the colorimeter was touching the screen. Should I not have the colorimeter actually touching the display to avoid this? It seems that it is going to throw off the measurements.
I was happy with the outcome of the calibration on the Rear projection but not on the LCDs.
On the Sony LCD in the advanced menu are all sorts of settings for Black Enchancement, Gamma, etc, etc. Should I shut all those settings off before calibrating?
And finally, on the reference Pictures on the DVD what exactly should I be seeing on the picture of the Black Panther. The DVD mentions looking for the left edge of the panther versus the black background but it just felt like the tutorial DVD didn't provide enough information for me to evaluate the end result of the blacks well enough.
Thanks for all of the great information provided here on the forums, I'm reading all that I can to better understand the process.
