View Full Version : Wardevil: Enigma - Yet people say Sony is only losing exclusives....
makingmusic476 03-27-07, 02:13 PM I had originally made this thread a while back on the GameSpot forums to help give ps3 fans hope and try to counter-act the endless spring of ps3 negativity that was January and early February.
____________________________________________________________ ___
Wardevil: Enigma was originally planned for both the ps3 and the 360, but at e3 2006 it was declared to be a ps3 exclusive. This games is one of the most impressive ps3 games I have yet to see, and I can't wait to hear more news on it.
According to ign (http://search.ign.com/products?query=wardevil) it was canceled for the 360, but of course, GS is behind the curve, and still has it listed for both systems, even going so far as to only post the trailers for the 360 version.
According to the official Wardevil site, "Revealed for the first time on the Playstation 3 platform, WarDevil Enigma was a technology demo showcasing an early build of the PS3 RTE1080 Engine. Specifically running at full 1080P (1920x1080 - 60 Progressive fps) in real-time, giving a first taste of the power of both the host system & the new Engine." Go here (http://www.wardevil.com/), click Enter > News > Enigma.
The digi-guys team is building this game specifically for the ps3, going so far as to make its own specific game engine built from the groundup for the ps3, specialized to run amazing looking games in full 1080P. This leads me to believe that they will use this game engine to make more ps3 exclusives in the future. :D
Here are some screenshots for the e3 06 trailer, running in real-time:

*****UPDATE*****
Yes, Wardevil: Enigma has surfaced again, and it looks as stunning as ever. This ps3 exclusive is a hybrid game and HD movie that developer Digi-Guys has been working on for quite a few years. Nothing had been shown of the game since E3 '06, until a trailer was shown behind close doors at TGS07. This same trailer will be made available for download via the Official Wardevil Website (http://www.wardevil.com/) later this month. New screens from the trailer have already been uploaded onto the site, and they look gorgeous. The screens are only 720p, but the trailer will be 1080p when it's ready for download.
Here are some of the new screens:

This is real time and reported to be 1080p and 60fps. Also, this game was confirmed to have rumble according to the list presented by Sony at TGS.
briankmonkey 03-27-07, 02:17 PM any actual gameplay videos?

While it's not gameplay, the screens posted are in-engine renders from a real time tech demo.

Yup, that is what is says. Tons of games look great in pictures (though I'm not sure what I'd say about this game yet) which is why I want more than a still shot. I'm sure they'll be released eventually.

According to the Wardevil site, they should be releaseing more screens early this year (which seems to have passed already :/). I'm holding out for E3. They also said screens and various other game details will be released peridically throughout the year, culminating in a new trailer around September.
Also, the publisher will be announced early this year as well. I'm assuming its Sony, hence the sudden exclusivity and the focus on building a ps3-specific game engine. That would really go along with what Sony is doing with other companies like Ninja Theory (Heavenly Sword) and others.
briankmonkey 03-27-07, 02:30 PM Cool, I hope it turns out to be a good game. Keep us posted :)
Tripjammer 03-27-07, 03:05 PM Damn this game is on my list, right up there with Killzone and Heavenly Sword!!!
I just know the PS3 will have some bad assed looking 1080P games by this time next year....
talbain 03-27-07, 03:08 PM so what is it? a first person shooter? action/adventure?
those screenshots remind me of a game on the pc called painkiller (which i liked quite a bit)

some dude that was assimilated by the Borg and some skeleton with armor? I have no idea.
makingmusic476 03-27-07, 03:27 PM Ha, and according to IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/707/707034p1.html), that demo didn't look as good as the original trailer, and they're hoping it will look even closer to the original trailer by the time it's completed. Look better than those shots? Aside from the lighting, i really don't see how they could improve upon those amazing visuals.
Huh, maybe Killzone 2 is possible after all.
Well, from the trailers on ign, the game looks to be some sort of shooter, involving gameplay elements similar to that of Assassin's Creed (like climbing on walls and stuff).
briankmonkey 03-27-07, 03:33 PM ah, so they are ape skeleton monkeys based on the trailer. Interesting.
Protopet 03-27-07, 03:58 PM From IGN link ^^^^
The game will not be playable here at E3, but it is promised to be fully playable at TGS.
Was there ever any demo?
joeblow 03-27-07, 05:15 PM I actually played in the demo at E3 last year when it was first shown. I was suitably impressed with the sharp 1080P visuals even though it was very early. Hopefully the final game is something really special.

Really? Good for you because I thought they were cut-scenes
makingmusic476 03-27-07, 08:45 PM Um...according to the Wardevil site (along with every major gaming site) the game has not been seen since e3 '06, so nothing at tgs. Also, the demo at e3 was unplayable according to IGN. :|
Slacker George 10-02-07, 10:21 PM The official Wardevil website (http://www.wardevil.com/)has been updated with some new pictures. It also mentions a new teaser trailer coming in early October.

I was just about to post this. :P
makingmusic476 10-02-07, 10:54 PM For some reason it won't let me edit the topic title like it normally does. >_<
Iupdated the OP for all those interested. I would change the topic title accordingly, but as I said, it won't let me.
Slacker George 11-15-07, 02:56 AM Tiny little bit of Wardevil "news":

Wardevil is definitely not canceled. IGN will have "exclusive" coverage starting next January I believe and let me tell you something...it looks ****ing AMAZING!
I've seen "recent" progress of the game through an employee and all I can say is WOW.

PS3 RTE1080? 1080p/60? Get this engine done NOW and sell it to other devs!

I agree, it looks frelling amazing theres a video of some real time stuff somewhere. (the screens in the OP are from the real time video I've seen).
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/44202.html (a demonstration of the engine, can't remember when its from)
TheCrackedJack 11-15-07, 04:34 AM I'll be very impressed if it ends up looking like those screens when it eventually releases. This industry, like many others, has too much history in over-promising and under-delivering.

According to the guy at neogaf it looks amazing, and according to this press release it was running on real time ps3 hardware.

joeblow 11-15-07, 11:44 AM Awesome updates. Looking forward to seeing more progress.
joeblow 02-05-08, 11:49 PM New update. (http://www.psu.com/Wardevil-gets-a-new-look-First-image-inside--News--a0002643-p0.php)
Apparently they are simultaneously making a CG movie for Blu-ray release along with the game. A new picture below of the game, all in-game at 1080P and 60fps:

DubBucket 02-06-08, 12:25 AM I like the new look. Less rockstar, more gladiator :D Plus, it's more racially ambiguous.
DubBucket 02-06-08, 12:54 AM Ooooh, I like the CG movie idea. Unless it's a gimmick to sell their otherwise uninspired game, but that remains to be seen.
Who cares about gameplay? It looks cool and renders at 1920x1080 - 60 Progressive fps. It must be good!

number1laing 02-06-08, 01:54 PM This thing has red flags all over it. Nothing substantive shown for years (with the inevitable art redesign in the interim), a small inexperienced developer, lots of technology buzzwords, tacky "franchise extensions" being announced before anything solid on the game being demo'd. I wouldn't pin my hopes to this game.

Sounds a lot like Killzone 2, except they've dumped tons of money into that project.
