truth be told, I've never played a Colin McRae game. I was just such a huge Rallisport fan that I'm psyched for any rally style game for 360.

two questions:

How would you compare the gameplay of previous Colin McRae games to Rallisport?

Rallisport never sold that well. Colin McRae is much more a simulation, but still on the arcade style.

I think this is all CG. I don't see why developers still feel the need to put out CG trailers, it gives no indication of what the game actually looks like and serves no real purpose other than to fool the public.

Whatever did happen to Rallisport?



Rallisport is developed by DICE and they were bought by EA so who knows what will happen to the Rallisport franchise. EA has already so many racing games they may shelf this one. :(

I'm pretty sure that the Rallisport franchise is owned by Microsoft and they only farmed out the development to DICE, but I could be wrong about that.

I'd say no. There's a real gameplay video on the marketplace that looks much less impressive (although still quite good).

This will probably be an excellent game, as all Colin McRae games in the past have been.

Something is wrong with the marketplace video. Its out of focus badly, right up until the end when the word DIRT appears on screen in razor sharpness.

So you guys are still hyped about Dirt after seeing the real gameplay? I am not going to run a bit torrent client at work. So, I can't see the video yet. Maybe I'll watch it form home tonight. Just looking for some more impressions. The screenshots shown on that linked page aren't too exciting.

Dirt looks great. Graphics and gameplay shown looks quite similar to how Motorstorm was advertised. I like the attention to detail shown, yet that comes with the current-gen (x-360 and ps3) technology. I believe in the end I'll consider this a buy if two conditions are met:
1. Rallisport 3 is never announced
2. or Dirt actually plays well. Similar, in fact, to Rallisport 2.
If I test Dirt and it comes out like another Motorstorm (shoot me now!) in terms of gameplay itself and the options presented (or lack thereof in Motorstorm) then I'll pass and suffice with Forza 2.

The IGN video in the first post doesn't have that statement, and also looks significantly better than the "actual gameplay" video. It still looks pretty good, and Colin McRae games in general have had nice graphics, but the trend of "in-game assets" used in a not in-game video is getting annoying.

Yeah, while the "actual gameplay" video looked quite good, the IGN video looks far superior. I would go so far as to say that "if" it were actual gameplay it would be the best looking console game ever, imho.

I never actually took a peek at the IGN video; I only viewed the one available on Live -- which was pretty, and looked enormously fun with all the different vehicle and track types and crashes. I say it's definitely worth a look.

Safe bet on there not being a Rallisport sequel. DICE is owned by EA, Rallisport sales were disappointing, and MS owns the branding and EA is only interested in multiplatform games.

Here are 8 different videos of Dirt. All of them actual game play. It's from a French review site. This game looks pretty good to me. I will definately be buying this one along with Forza 2.

The only thing I've seen says summer 2007.

IGN says June. I wouldn't trust an actual date until the game goes gold.

The only problem I have with the french videos is that are small in size, thus compressing the image/movie and making it look better than what it really is. You know... Ubisoft/Red Storm R6 and GRAW series.
