Don't know what to say. I really can't believe Warner is treating this like an extra feature and not an official film. This just completely stinks. Honestly I feel that this could of looked even better in HD than the trilogy itself.

Idiots!!

I think this was previously announced and discussed in one of the original threads for the Matrix. It sux and is the reason I am getting the complete Matrix (in the end I want the HD content.

These sites have been known to be wrong before. Until I see something official from WB, I would not necessarily assume this is true.

do we really need ANOTHER thread on this topic? i don't even mean about the Matrix release, but rather the Animatrix and its resolution.

What is Animatrix? A Matrix movie? The 4th one?

Anyway, I think I'll stay out of the man room. Not a very inviting name for a website.

I think you people are forgetting that some, if not most, of the Animatrix was mastered in SD. So if you got it with a HD label on it, you'd bitch.

I just want to see The Second Renaissance in HD. The two segments are immersive and DTHD sound would be wicked. The guy that did BlueSub6 made them so they should be HD ready.

Those Two segments looked liked they were from an HD master source.

And If you've seen GiTS or Ergo Proxy, you know how incredible anime looks in HD.
Its the only gripe I had with Eureka7.

with the exception of the cg short in animatrix i don't think any of it was mastered in hd. one person said he saw animatrix on tnt hd but couldn't confirm if it was upconverted or not.

i work in animation and if it was meant for video release we would not produce an hd
show. it would drain recources in every step of the process. producing hd res material would have to be budgeted into the cost of production ie: purchasing new equiptment to handle the workload.

i highly doubt the 2d portions of animatrix was created in hd, it was never intended for theatrical release.

doesn't mean someone couldn't upconvert the 2d shorts for a theatrical showing. some reports have said that animatrix was shown in theaters. i'm still skeptical.

The second Renaissance is a real trip.

One of the best things I have seen in animation.
The colors are psychodelic. The sound is a blast.

The CG short is one of not so impressive shorts on the animatrix. If you've seen The Second Renaisannce, you know that it looks absolutely beautiful and has a certain sharpness that some live action HD sources do(3D).

Not working in animation. I know for a fact that a number of anime shows are mastered in full HD with Dobly Digital 5.1 surround sound for broadcast in Japan. Starting late 2002/early 2003. At least the High Profile shows like Stand Alone Complex.

And they look absolutely 3D. SAC and The Second Renaissance use a similar mix of hand drawn and CGI.

Bosng you don't happen to work for a Japanes animation Studio do you.
As far as resources go there starting to beak million dollar productions.

So for a high profile title like the Matrix money shouldn't be a problem. Nor Talent.
A lot of the shorts on the disc come from teams with legitimate pedigrees.

If Ani isn't HD I may wait for the BD release.

bosng check out Stand Alone Complex and Ergo Proxy in HD. They use surround and cinematography more effectively than most major studios.

in general: Osiris was made by the Spirits Within team, so Sony may have their hand in that. I guess thats why the storytelling for Osiris was so Good Shephard like. Dull, tedious, and unengaging.

They had 35mm screenings of the entire "The Animatrix" in theaters. Very likely it was mastered in HD. Would look absolutely DREADFUL otherwise at 2:35-1 blown up from 480.

http://lsc.mit.edu/schedule/2003.3q/desc-animatrix.shtml

"...Just one episode from The Animatrix, "The Final Flight of the Osiris," accompanied the theatrical release of the supernatural thriller Dreamcatcher, and the entire set was released on DVD on June 3. But this may be your only chance to see The Animatrix on the BIG SCREEN, shown from 35mm motion picture film. Don't miss it!"

specs from IMDB, note the "HDTV" part.

Film negative format (mm/video inches)
Digital

Cinematographic process
HDTV

Printed film format
35 mm

Aspect ratio
2.35 : 1

I mean, 2003? They'd be foolish to have not done it in HD. And everyone here saying they mastered it in SD is ASSUMING as they do not actually know. Aside from these assumptions I don't see any info. stating that these were mastered at 480.

well i tried doing some searches on hd anime and found this
stuff.

interesting blog:

hd trailer:

http://i.yimg.jp/images/evt/5cm/teaser8000k1280_720.wmv

as you can see if it's produced for hd it can certainly be a beautiful thing.

not all anime would benefit in the same way when presented in hd except maybe the linework would be a bit sharper.

that's "if" it was generated in hd resolutions.

Heck, there is even a HD episode of "South Park" from a few years back that is up on Xbox live for free download.

I thought it looked great on my setup too.

I don't know what legit animation studio would not produce in HD these days.

They certainly would not sketch on their Wacom tabs using a 720x480 canvas, nor would they scan any animation done on tactile mediums at 720x480.

I wish Warner would just break the silence on this issue, though I suspect the reason for it may be thay they are investigating their options. They may not have expected such an outcry from the fans over the lack of the Animatrix in HD. We'll see.
