As usual, another HD DVD I ended up getting early. I'll give PQ updates as soon as I've spent some time with it. Of course, Universal didn't include a TrueHD audio track as expected so we have to live with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1.
MichaelHDDVD 03-28-07, 12:53 AM Universal is encoding most of the DD+ tracks @ 1.5 mbps so its still good imo. I like the pic. I liked this movie despite the mediocre reception and reviews.
paulstachniak 03-28-07, 01:10 AM loved this movie (probably one of the four people who did). Can't wait for this HD DVD.
I Superman I 03-28-07, 04:56 AM Nice pick up, I too enjoyed the movie. I thaught Matt Damons role is of subtlety and insanely hard to pull off, which he did decently well for the character, it's also a fairly complicated story and speech, so I can't wait to rewatch it on HD-DVD.
ResOGlas 03-28-07, 05:06 AM Ok, I watched the movie. The PQ is very clean, and I'm sure it won't disappoint most. The film grain has clearly been softened, but the detail really doesn't suffer too much. It looks much better than transfers that have shamelessly and completely filtered out film grain in it's entirety from a film. I believe that film grain, if originally present, is something that should be carefully preserved instead of carefully removed in this high definition era. Due to this, I will give the PQ a score of a low 4 out of 5.
Chin up, it doesn't look bad.
QWK SVT 03-28-07, 10:08 AM I never saw this in the theaters, but might be a good blind buy (I pay little attention to movie reviews, other than from people I know)...
I wish I had a place near me where day & date was a guarantee, let alone pre-date

The movie doesn't have a very aggressive soundtrack. DD+ at Universal's 1.5 mbps bit rate should be more than sufficient.

Hi
Could you confirm that there are 20 minutes or so worth of deleted scenes?
I heard the original cut run 3 hours or more and I don't like double dipping, if there is the possibilty of a director's cut in the future. What is your impression after watching the deleted scenes? (if you did). And are they 1080p? I guess not.
Thanks

I don't recommend this title as a blind buy. If you saw the previews/trailers for this and expect to see a fast paced spy movie with alot of action, you will be very dissapointed. While I personally liked it and thought it was a "good" movie, I was caught off guard since I was expecting the movie to be something that was represented on the previews. Being almost three hours long, the movie is very slow and skips around all over the place and tends to be very confusing. I would almost even say that the movie was pretty damn boring. Oh, and DeNiro and Pesci have cameo appearances for about 10 minutes in the whole movie. Having said that, I'll probably buy it anyway, but don't know when I'll ever have the time and the patience to watch it again. I recommend going to imdb.com first and reading some reviews on there.

Sums up this movie pretty well.
