Thanks for posting jhoff. I read your impressions with caution because as much as I would like everyone to chill out and give GH a shot these days, there will inevitably be some things that I wish were done better. Drop-in play, and four guitars are things I won't likely experience, but I do like the option of different playing styles since GH:WT including the touch strip. Mine shipped out yesterday.

I rented a copy of Guitar Hero 5 today...still debating if I should buy it or not. I'm not a fan of the track list just yet, although I am glad they FINALLY put Smells Like Teen Spirit into one of these games. Maybe the track list will grow on me, as they have on other titles.

I must say they really improved the presentation of the game this time around....I've always found the guitar hero series to look a bit cartoony/childish and preferred Rock Band's style over Guitar Hero. This time around, Guitar Hero is definitely better looking, more stylish, and more streamlined. I only really pull these games out when I have people over (which is pretty frequently), and the party mode is a welcome edition. This will probably go overlooked by most people, but the audio quality in Guitar Hero 5 is top-notch. Clean bass-lines, tight kick drums, and pristine highs. Its definitely a good game to show off your gear.

We had a lot of fun with Guitar Hero World Tour...the track list for World Tour had a lot of staple Juke Box hits you'd hear at a bar. The ability to import tracks from World Tour and Smash Hits (eventually) and the improved presentation might bring me to buy this game.

again only 35 tracks from GHWT are available supposedly for now but you will jhave to pay again for when they relicense more songs.

I apologize if these have been posted before, but I have to wait for my GH5 to pop out of a cake in a couple of weeks and this will have to do for now. I'm looking forward to playing the Billy Squier track again, and the "celebrity" characters have a certain appeal. Yeah, you can make similar characters if you want to take the time in RB, blah blah blah... Party Poopers!

Guitar Hero 5 Review
Don't hang up your plastic axe just yet.
by Erik Brudvig
September 1, 2009 - Activision and Neversoft have been running the Guitar Hero show for some time now. The group took hold of the franchise with Guitar Hero 3, expanded the game series to a full band with Guitar Hero World Tour and offered up a handful of spin-offs along the way. With that much experience, you'd think the mega-publisher would learn how to put together a winning product. And you'd be right. Guitar Hero 5 is the best addition to the franchise in a long time.

It shouldn't come as any surprise that Guitar Hero 5 doesn't stray much from the same tried-and-true gameplay formula that has been the focus of over a dozen games in the past few years alone. The notes still come scrolling down the screen and the would-be rock stars around the world sill click those plastic guitars, bang the drums, and do their best to stay on key and in rhythm. Guitar, bass, drums and vocals are the four parts that make up the band. So what makes this one different from the other handful of Guitar Hero games that have come out over the last year? Quite a bit actually.

Check out Guitar Hero 5 video review. One of the best things that Neversoft has done with Guitar Hero 5 is to make it just as easy to navigate the menus as it is to enjoy the game itself. This may not seem like such a big deal, but in practice it makes everything about the game more enjoyable. A layer of frustration has been stripped away from nearly every aspect of this game. Not only will your parents be able to understand how to play the game, now they'll be figure out how to get into the game, too.

This is most noticeable in the all-new Party Play mode. Everyone who has thrown a party with Rock Band or Guitar Hero World Tour has at least one memory of new players having trouble logging in, choosing instruments, and making sure they've selected the right difficulty for their skill level. We've all been there and it isn't any fun. Party Play does away with this in a most agreeable way. As soon as you turn Guitar Hero 5 on, the game simply starts playing through your library of tunes. It acts like a jukebox of sorts. If any song catches your ear, all you have to do is pick up an instrument and hit a button to start playing. You can change difficulties, drop in or out, add other players, or even skip to another song without the music ever stopping.

If somebody is already playing guitar and you don't want to be stuck with bass, no worries. Any combination of instruments can be used. Set up your own guitar army or get everyone in the room singing harmonies -- it's your call. Party Play and letting people use what instrument they want sound like such simple concepts you'll start wondering why it took this long to get these features in. But hey, they're here now and they really do add a lot to the fun.

Kurt Cobain, and other stars, make an appearance. The Career mode has received a similar makeover in the name of accessibility. It's hardly even a career anymore. There's no more money to earn or tour to take part in and there isn't any story to speak of. Instead, you'll simply work your way through a few lists of songs, unlocking new gigs and other goodies along the way. There are no separate careers for each instrument or difficulty. It's all in one place and it's based around earning stars. To add a bit more depth, every gig has its own bonus challenge that enables you to earn a few extra stars.

This layout does several good things. Most importantly, it allows you to switch difficulty settings, instruments or band members without restarting your career. You won't reach the end of the Career on Expert, realize you simply can't beat it, and then have to go back and replay through the whole shebang again on Hard. The challenges also give you reason to go back and replay an old song to complete various objectives. Challenges include things like strumming up as many times as you can, using the whammy bar as much as possible, or hitting a certain score with a full band. Each song has one, and you'll earn the stars and unlock the bonus associated with it if anybody in your group meets the requirements -- so you can work through the game with an online band playing only guitar and still get everything.

This new Career mode also allows you to "beat" the game without playing every song. If you hate a particular track (or can't complete one), you can simply go back and replay older tunes to earn more stars and progress that way.

Perhaps the slickest part of the Career is that you don't have to exit out of it entirely to switch to another game mode. Guitar Hero 5's log-in screen -- where players choose their avatars, instruments, and difficulty level -- acts as a hub for the rest of the game. You can switch from the career to a competitive mode or even find other players to join your game without quitting back to the main menu

There are a handful of new competitive multiplayer modes that join the standard Face Off and Pro Face Off. My favorite of the bunch is called Momentum. Here, everyone starts on Medium difficulty and then moves up or down based on how well they play. On the flip side, modes like Do or Die aren't as successful. In that one, players get knocked out of the game for a while if they miss three notes in a given section. It sounds good on paper, but the reality is that mid-tier or intro players will find themselves just standing around more often than not. And if everyone gets knocked out, all you can do is sit around and look at each other awkwardly.

Neversoft really did go all out making sure that the presentation for Guitar Hero 5 is top notch. It's received such an upgrade that it's easy to overlook the small gameplay tweaks. The developers have made little changes here and there that come together and make the final game that much better. For example, if single band members fail and drop out, the entire band won't get booed off stage. The surviving crew instead has the opportunity to play well and bring them back (thanks, Rock Band). Band Moments have been added, which are small sections of the song that everyone in the band has to nail to activate a bonus multiplier. Even Star Power has seen an improvement. For starters, everyone has their own meter now. If yours is full and you earn more Star Power, the extra will overflow into the other band members' gauges to give them a boost.

Party Play is perfect for a party. Go figure. My only real gripe with Guitar Hero 5 is that the track list is a bit too broad. It seems like the goal was to include a bit of everything, but all that really does is ensure that nobody will like everything on the disc. Please find me a person who is a fan of Megadeth, Blink-182, Coldplay, and Peter Frampton. There's an eclectic mix of songs on here and you're sure to find something you like, but be prepared to have just as many that you skip entirely.

Even if you don't like some of the tracks, Neversoft did a good job making sure that the songs are fun to play. The note charts are solid and nearly all of the songs have at least one interesting part. The drums and bass on "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Lust for Life" are great. The vocals on Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire will test just how low your vocal range goes. And if you're one of those looking for a challenge on guitar, you'll find it in Jeff Beck's "Scatterbrain" and King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man".

If you find yourself feeling down on the track list, there is still plenty of reason to give Guitar Hero 5 a look. Apart from the top-notch feature set, there's also the bonus of being able to import songs from other Guitar Hero games to use with all of those great features. A free download allows you to play any downloadable tracks from Guitar Hero World Tour for free. For 280 Microsoft points (US $3.50), you can also import a chunk of Guitar Hero World Tour's on-disk track list. They all work in the Career and competitive modes with all of the new gameplay features, too. Just by downloading the free World Tour tracks and importing that disc, I've already got about 130 songs on my Party Play rotation. Not bad at all.

Xbox 360 players can use their avatars in the game.A few features sit at the periphery of Guitar Hero 5 that various people will appreciate. In addition to being able to customize their characters via the Rock Star Creator, Xbox 360 players can now also import their Avatars to use in the game. It looks a bit weird to have an Xbox Avatar on stage with the other Guitar Hero characters, but it's a fun little option.

Then there's the GHStudio -- the mode in Guitar Hero where you can create your own songs using pre-recorded samples. This second version is leaps and bounds above where it was with World Tour. The sound samples are better, there are more of them, your songs can be longer, and the whole shebang is easier to navigate. That said, it's still a bit unwieldy and mostly accessible to the true hardcore. Unless you're extremely dedicated, you won't get much out of the studio.

Closing Comments
There have been a lot of Guitar Hero games over the past few years. And there will be more yet before this year comes to a close. It's easy to get lost in the flood. But if you're going to grab one, Guitar Hero 5 is a good choice. The accessibility, streamlined presentation, solid note charts, and welcome gameplay improvements make this the best Guitar Hero game in recent memory.

gh5 first thoughts:

i really like the party play mode. random shuffle is ok, need to investigate the playlist capabilities.

i did notice it was harder to get into that 'im actually making the music' groove rather than just playing along. maybe its just being outside of that rb2 environment we spend 100s of hours in... one thing that helped a lot was i went into the audio levels and bumped up guitar one notch and effects/crowd down one notch.

having open notes on bass is very cool.

not sure why i had to download a 285mb ghwt compatability patch to enable the ghwt dlc. seems that it should have worked out of the box. but anyways it did work which is what counts. death magnetic dlc worked which makes the 4th game it works in.

career mode: not sure what they are thinking here. doesn't have the gh3 structure, no more world touring. seemed kind of meh...

i'm utterly helpless with the slider so i don't even try to use it. i heard there was an option to make slider sections into just regular hopo notes, haven't tried that yet.

to me 85 songs + a good guitar for $99 seems like a good deal, so i do recommend it as a supplement to rb2 but not instead of.

Anyone elses calibration seem.......weird? I did the calibration (I use the RB2 Strat) and my brother uses the GHWT guitar and both our calibrations were the same. Strangely, both audio and video were 0 milliseconds. Maybe this is why it seems the game is more strict about hitting the note EXACTLY as it crosses the strum line. How did everyone elses calibrations turn out?

ileff
09-03-09, 10:04 AM
I think my calibration was:

Video: 0ms
Audio: 1ms

Did 'They Say' a few times until i got FC for the 6* achievement. Wish they would have stolen the gold star idea where you can miss a few notes. Also wish they would have stolen a solo section you can see with %.

having a catalog of songs playable from one disc is pretty liberating. I have over 450 songs playable at any time in RB2(not including the few dozen I've deleted). It's not just switching songs, it having them available for a random playlist, being able to do 12 foo fighter songs in a row. The more songs the better.

Ditto. And that is why I love it. I have friends over, and with GH (which I've pretty much abandoned playing at parties) we used to literally have a laptop open with a spreadsheet of which songs were on which discs. God forbid we wanted to play something from GHIII followed by something from from GH:Aerosmith. It would take literally 3-5 minutes to swap the discs and get set back up to play one song.

Rock Band 2 on the other hand is pretty liberating. Throw in the disc, fire up my list of (currently) 407 songs, and have at it for hours and hours and hours until my wife comes downstairs and screams at us about it being late and people are trying to sleep.

It's nice GH is kindof catching up now. I might actually buy GH5 if I feel enough songs are finally exportable to give a pretty decent setlist without swapping discs, but not sure. Frankly I have so many songs for RockBand now I'm not sure having a second game with a lot of songs is worth it to me, or if I should just keep buying RB DLC. Kindof invested now...but I do like some of the GH5 features, such as being able to have multiple people playing the same instrument.

After burning a 5,000 point card "catching up" (RB)dlc, I am looking forward to the new bells and whistles in gh5. Don't get me wrong, I think the library at your fingertips is great and the weely support is unmatched. But for $60 I'd like a game now and then, thank you.

I wouldn't be surprised if when the gh franchise is on it's last leg , they completely re- work the entire catalog for a box set. ( and I'd probably buy that, too.)

I finally got to play GH5 last night. I like the new streamline approach, the tweeked user interface, and especially the attention so the single-playing games (bonus challenges and whatnot).

I was really looking forward to the import feature. When this was announced, I was thrilled that I wouldn't have to load up the Guitar Hero World Tour and Smash Hits disks -- the World Tour setlist is very good and Smash Hits has the best setlist of all.

I'll have to say I'm extremely disappointed in the (lack of) number of songs included in the import, especially with Smash Hits -- almost every song I love to play in Smash Hits is missing from the import. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_Smash_Hits#Soundtrack)

I was so looking forward to loading the new GH5 interface and playing Killer Queen, Godzilla, Killing in the Name Of, Lay Down, More Than a Feeling, Smoke on the Water, Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart, Take Me Out, Back In the Saddle... but these songs and other good ones are all missing from import. Uggggg.

Yes, there are a couple decent songs that did make the import list (Miss Murder, No One Knows, Shout at the Devil, Rock And Roll all Nite...), but I can't shake the dissapointment that I'll still have to load the SH disk to access the cream of the crop.

ARRRRGGG. Oh well, hopefully I'll get over it and enjoy the new game. And if not, Beatles comes out next week. :o

daverJ, definitely agree about the missing import songs. I was really disappointed about the lack of songs importing in from GH:SH but even moreso with the lack of songs importing from World Tour. Of the 1/2 that didn't carry over several were my favorites.

Let's just hope that the comments from the devs were correct that as Neversoft/Activision are able to continue to relicense more songs they will become available as part of the updates. I'm just curious on how they would become available- they better not charge for a 3rd update (160pts for 21 songs imported from GH:SH is just flat out robbery)

I guess what I was getting at is I feel Guitar Hero and Rock Band should avoid songs that are prominently keyboard.

Also, I'm not crazy about keyboard solos (organ, piano, synth) charted for guitar, and would rather play what the rhythm guitarist is doing during these sections (I'm looking at you, Boston's "Smokin'").

First off, I will apologize for being lazy. I did a few google searches and read this tread a bit, but frankly I would rather watch football today than research this question. Can one of you help a lazy college football fan? We have GHWT. My kids want RockBand Beatles. I love playing this game with them. Do I need to get the RockBand instruments, or can I use my Xbox GHWT instruments? I already have 3 guitar hero guitars and would rather avoid having another guitar and a new set of drums. But, if I have to, I will. Probably pick up GH5 while I am at it. :-)

Ok, back to beer and football. Thanks for listening.

Played GH5 for a hour ro so.

Like:
Pick up and play mechanics and options

Dislike: hyper speed is pretty much required for a lot of songs. 2 minutes to midnight's chart is nigh unreadable at the default setting thanks to a increased angle on GH's note highways and the round note pods.

Hate with a vengeance: so how does GH deal with complaints about hard to read BD hit notes...they make the note highways black and the BD notes...grey. Who the hell works for this idiot company! Mind you my friends 40 inch SD tube isn't the best HW to view teh game with but you'd think proper color distinction would be step number freakin 1!

Also found little to enjoy in the soundtrack. We played GH5 for about an hour and beatles Rock Band for several.

on the back of the manuals for WT and SH, you'll see a unique code.
In GH5 you will need to download the updates within the game, one to import WT songs, one to import SH songs, and another to import DLC for WT. For the WT and SH compatibility you'll be prompted for the unique code from the manuals. Then the import can be run to import the 35 songs from WT and 25 from SH

As someone who generally likes the visual presentation of games, I was generally unimpressed by the dulled-down RB copycat look of GH:5. Song2 is great to start off, but the song selection in the first two venues is going to be a chore to get through just because I'm not familiar with any other titles. I don't know what possessed me to remove the riveting literature from my GH:WT and GH:SH games ...

Oh well.

The online rock show with do or die, perfectionist and other modes is great. Line up 4 guitarists and see who survives!

As someone who generally likes the visual presentation of games, I was generally unimpressed by the dulled-down RB copycat look of GH:5. Song2 is great to start off, but the song selection in the first two venues is going to be a chore to get through just because I'm not familiar with any other titles. Hopefully, this will evolve as others are unlocked. Maybe I'm just getting too old for GH.:D

considering the larger amount of older songs I doubt it.

Well, I've finished the setlist with a little help from moving down to "hard" difficulty for about a half dozen songs. I just don't have the time or patience to learn all of them that well, and I'm glad that the unlock system has evolved to allow you to finish the game at many levels.

This is what GH:WT/GH:4 should have been. The setlist is as good as any, really. The competitive modes are varied and offer a lot of different ways to play against others. Yes, the dlc will always be configured better for RB (although GH has improved compatibilty), but that's mostly a feature for the people in the room as it is a rare occassion to play RB Qplay and find anyone with DLC. This is why I think the competive modes in GH offer a unique advantage. Rockshow is a hit and maybe someday I'll see 4 drum sets up on stage just for grins.\m/

Charting piano parts and organ solos may irk some, but I think the tap and push-only techniques were fun to play horn sections. Bring on Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good."

The Rock Star Creator includes options for creating avatar rockers from within the game- nice bonus, but it might make you want to buy more clothes from marketplace. ;-)

I played a couple Guitar Hero 5 songs on the Ion drum kit, and despite the GH 2-tom limitation, I found myself having a lot of fun on many songs -- You Give Love a Bad Name, Under Pressure, Fame, Looks that Kill, and especially Play That Funky Music!

I must have played that last song three times in one sitting. :o

I played some GH5 the other day - without a doubt, this is the best GH game since GH 2....there have been quite a few turds since GH2, but it looks like activision is turning the corner. How about releasing one every 18 months instead of every 12? The brand has been diluted just a little too much.

I'm making my way through Guitar Hero: Van Halen -- here's a couple thoughts:

For better or worse, this is another GH: Aerosmith... except full band. They wisely start off with "Panama", which is a near-perfect song for a music/rhythm game. I don't listen to Van Halen much anymore, but hearing these songs (the prime David Lee Roth tunes!) again is a nice reminder of why I did in their heyday. And "playing" the Eddie guitar charts is very fun... the dude, if nothing else, was an innovator that played with a lot of finesse that really comes out in the charting.

PLUSES:
+decent enough setlist (if you like or liked Van Halen)
+guitar charts show why Eddie was "The Man" in his time
+...and that "tap bar" on the World Tour guitar can be put to very good use. ;)
+full band

MINUSES:
-uses old World Tour engine, not GH5
-some non-VH songs are available in other games (Painkiller, White Wedding, Sick Sick Sick, Master Exploder)
-very ugly/awkward character models
-some strange, stiff mo-cap animations
-what's with the boy on bass???? I know he's a Van Halen kid, but it's laughably dumb
-yet another disc of the same game with a band-focused music and art style

Bottom line: this game doesn't rank as low as "Rock the 80s"... maybe a notch above Aerosmith because of the full band. But not as good as Metallica, World Tour or GH5. Yet, even though I have few good things to say about this release and many bad things, for some reason I still like and enjoy playing Guitar Hero games, and this one is no exception.

Yeah, I registered and sent in the GH5 info about a week after it came out early in September. The freebie came in the mail a couple days ago, in a printed cardboard sleeve indicated "promo, not for resale" or something like that. Oh, and fliers for the Smash Hits game and something else.

btw, I got to "Jump" last night, and was amused the famous synth keyboard part (intro and solo) is indeed mapped to the guitar. :D Of course I understand this tune has to be in the game, and there's big chunk of the song with no or little guitar, so no bitchin' from me this time. :o

I was reminded how controversial this song was when it originally came out - you have one of the (arguably) greatest rock guitar virtuoso releasing a new single where the main instrument is a *gasp* synthesizer. And still, the song becomes a huge hit and one of the biggest videos of the year!

they pulled the same crap on smash hits demo. Their reasoning is likely to pull people to pay for the game to play the few scant currently exclusive songs on the disc.

Ok I finally made the plunge and got the GH5 guitar kit with GH: Metallica and GH Van Halen. It seems pretty fun. Wow, they picked the worst songs possible for the demo for drums. Kryptonite is a decent song (that I already have in Rock Band) but Rock Show just made me positive I never wanted to buy that song in Rock Band and Vampire Weekend, which is also a song I like after hearing it, made me stop looking forward to playing it in Lego Rock Band.

The Rock Show and Dammit are horrible songs on drums. They're repetitive, unimaginative, uninspired and not fun at all. Down, Feeling This, and All The Small Things show variety and skill on the drums. I like listening to Rock Show and Dammit, but don't try to tell me a sixth grader couldn't have come up with the drums for those songs.

Hey guys, I need some advice.

I have GH5, World Tour, Van Halen, and will be picking up Band Hero. I play all of them separately. no importing of tracks yet.

are you guys importing everything into GH5? is anyone importing everything into Band Hero?

and as for importing process, can we transfer the characters? like taking the no doubt characters from band hero to GH5?

and how does it work with multiple consoles in the house? do i have to pay to reimport them to a different console?

Unfortunately, it's impossible to import "everything" to GH5:

-All but 4 Band Hero songs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Band_Hero#Soundtrack) can be imported to Guitar Hero 5
-only half the songs of World Tour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Guitar_Hero_World_Tour) can be imported
-only half the songs of Smash Hits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Hero_Smash_Hits#Soundtrack) can be imported
-at the moment, none of the band-specific game songs (Van Halen, Metallica, Aerosmith) songs can be imported
-none of the pre-World Tour guitar-only game songs or DLC can be imported
-all World Tour DLC except Jimi Hendrix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_hero_world_tour_dlc#Downloadable_content) is available in GH5, no import needed

Yeah, I understand the limitations of importing. I was just curious if these games can be imported into Band Hero as the base instead of GH5 and if that has the same limitations.

Trying to work within the limits of the money making machine that is Activision.

without knowing all the permutations, I guess I'll just stick with the games as being completely separate.

As long as GH remains a quality product, it doesn't matter who makes the game. At least RedOctane got over $100 million for its sale to Activision. Not the monstrous $200+ million that MTV paid for Harmonix.

they kept the people behind the hardware and just dumped the rest of the company.

I do feel bad for Neversoft. I thought they finally got their legs with GH5 and Band Hero.

And the company behind Van Halen was the only one to do a quality audience. That was the first audience that I felt moved well with the music and really grooved. This was a better audience than Neversoft created with GH5/BH.

But if Activision goes the cheap route and hires a company like the one behind the new Karaoke Revolution (the company that was behind the Burger King games), ugh... death of a franchise.

I think this is just Activision overreacting. But I guess they don't want to be too slow to react like EA. Look how EA is suffering now. Yes, the music genre is once again becoming a niche market like DDR, but it's still plenty big enough. Collectively, the GH/BH/DH group still did very well, beating out the RB/RB2/LRB group even if individually, the titles suffered sales-wise.

okay, just finished the demo for GH warriors of rock.

i don't know what to say. i was worried that all the songs that most people know had already been mined by RB and GH and maybe this music is just too old for me. heavy metal from the 70s and 80s just doesn't do it for me.

as for the game itself, somehow the resolution of the game looks lower. GH5 and BH looked better to me.

and the difficulty was ramped up. i know that people that still play these music games are experts and can easily pass previous iterations of the games but they need to keep it reasonable for us casual players.

I think the era of RB and GH has passed me by. now they're plucking songs that only diehards know.

tried teh demo, still a crap interface gameplay hasn't improved nor has the charting. For some reason some idiot at neversoft still thinks grey is the prefect color for the bass beat notes while on a gray note runway. Non of the notes feel in any way connected to the actual music and frankly the game is just GH5 but with longer unskippable cutscenes. HMX jumps to a new echelon while neversoft wallows in the filth.

GH still has the open note on Bass that I think RB should adopt.

I thought the demo was more enjoyable for a GH game. I liked the bonuses you got when becoming a warrior, and the cut scene with Johnny drunk in the beginning. I wish they would update the chart visuals to something new, skittles are getting old.

I haven't bought A GH since 3 and Metallica. I rented/borrowed WT and 5, played them once and never cared to go back for more. I might actually pick this one up, not for $60 launch price though. There are a bunch of bands on there I'd liked to hear.

I don't want to start a you-know-what-contest, but I would add that the reviews have been a little too harsh. Is it a 9? No, but I'd give it 7-8. Yes, there are some songs that are from RB, but does anyone have more than one game where you can drive an R8 or shoot an m4? The arcade-y gimmicks add a little variety and challenge and the story mode offered a bit of a twist - certainly more than the mumbling cartoon flash cards.

The controller is ace, looks cool and plays without a hitch. The only drawback for some is that it offers a click/friction. YMMV.

I put in about 4hrs before hitting a wall at the last song, so I dropped from expert to medium to finish it off. This of course opened up a whole other branch of challenges.

I'm not a big rush fan, but the 2112 "act" seemed to fit the story and was an interesting diversion. It certainly isn't like playing "limelight," though. ;-)

in any other time, I'd probably pick this up along with RB3.

but I am kind of burned out on band games. the only music game I can see myself getting is DJ Hero 2 because the mixes are sick. I think I'll sit out on RB3 and GH6.

making the songs harder doesn't do it for me. i max out at hard. expert is out of the question for me.

making songs more realistic (a la RB3) doesn't do it for me. I'm not a musician. I just want to play a game. And don't try to tell me RB3 is a bridge to playing real instruments.

I grew up playing piano and never went further. At least I can read sheet music (thanks to real piano lessons). I at least have that over self taught musicians who only play by ear and experimentation. I tried to pick up guitar but some of the hand positions are just too hard for me. Making a game out of it can't help that out.

I'm moving back to my roots. Used to be a DDR nut. Now will be doing Dance Central and maybe Zumba (always wanted to learn Latin dances but never had the courage).

DOMINATION HEADACHE

Ok, so I've decided that I'd drop down level or two and play bass just to finish out the game and ran into a wall with the Artyeus (sp) song. I missed a grand total of two notes and it won't give me the 35 (thus 40) I need to clear the song and the stage. Grrr. I don't recall the other songs needing to be 100%, but this one just might have to be.

There are some ok songs in the last few tiers but just not my cup of tea for the vocals or the button-mashing wankery. That, and I'll end up single if I try and master the "Snot" track while anyone else is home. Ironically, most of the songs with "cookie monster voice" vocals have some interesting riffs.

All in all, the game has been pretty fun- especially since the track list rounds out to 397 after importing tunes and dlc from the other titles. This does, of course mean, Taylor Swift and Spice Girls which we have been wearing out thanks to the youngest diva in our group.
