I'm going to order a new bunch of HD DVD from Amazon. Most of the titles will be early releases, so I would like the opinion of people who have those titles, and if they consider that they still hold well in the PQ department, or if already after a year in release, there is a noticeable advance in the encoding of the picture.
The titles are Ray, Red Dragon, U-571, The Bourne Supremacy, Enter the Dragon and the Dirty Dozen.
I'm not asking about the opinion of the movie quality (If I order it's because I like those titles)
I know The Dirty Dozen has fading colors in disolves, but as it seems that it's something inherent to the optical processes of that time, I can live with it.
Enter the Dragon intrigues me the most, as I remember reading this was one of the 'faulty' Warner transfers, but after reading highdefdigest's review of this edition (where it gets 4 stars), I may be tempted to buy it.

Hi Maltin,
I watched Enter the Dragon a few weeks ago and compared it to the dvd. The HD-dvd's colors were more bold giving it more depth. It was still some film grain on it but not to bad. I was pleased with the purchase.
I've also watch Ray and felt it was soft in some parts, but overall better than the dvd.
Hope this helps you in your decision. :)

Yea, its one of the "faulty" transfers, so its not as sharp as other HD DVDs, but as mentioned above, the colors are lush, and its still way better than the SD DVD.

I can't say that the new transfers yet have anything on the initial HD DVD releases watching on my 50" SXRD. I thought Bullit might have looked better than I remember Enter the Dragon looking, but even that isn't anything against Enter the Dragon because I certainly didn't think it could be SD. I own The Bourne Supremacy and it's easily better than the DVD. I rented Ray and thought it looked good, but of course I also think Batman Begins looks great in HD.
U571 doesn't get a lot of love here, but I liked it more than more. The scenes inside the submarine are just OK. But the sound is really amazing to me. The depth bomber scene is worth the price of admission. Some of the wide shots outside the submarine are amazing. I know its off topic, but Chronicles of riddick should never be ignored when it comes to discussing early great HD-DVD PQ

I thought U-571 was incredible! Even the scenes inside the sub were clean and well detailed.
I also LOVED Ray. I thought the picture was neat as a pin with no problems and the soundtrack was amazing. One to definately own IMO!!!
