Seeing as we posted about the same time, much abliged of you thanks!
That means they have to announce, what, like two hundred more titles to get to three hundred in '07?
LoL!
Pro-HD DVD & pro truth in advertising.
(say your going to release 200 in '07, then when you release 250 you look like champs instead of chumps by not releasing 300)

You're the man though! ;)

The claim of 300 titles in 2007 was always intended to include worldwide totals -- not just US releases! You need to include Studio Canal and other foreign HD-DVD markets.
That said, even 200 domestic titles in 2007 is a major accomplishment without Fox, Disney or Sony releasing on the format. There will still be very little disparity between # of titles for the 2 formats by year's end, thanks to the great work of Universal Studios! They don't get nearly as much respect as they deserve here for their committment to HD-DVD!
the crane 03-28-07, 02:09 PM What sucks is there are only 4 non Matrix titles I am interested in picking up.
DigitalfreakNYC 03-28-07, 02:10 PM What sucks is there are only 4 non Matrix titles I am interested in picking up.
Only 3 for me...and I'm not even getting The Matrix.
The Untouchables - sweet
this looked great on HDNet a while back, it should be awesome on HD-DVD.
Only 3 for me...and I'm not even getting The Matrix.
You...are...not...getting...the Matrix????
I am gonna be so broke...I see at lease 25 on that list that are "must buys".
i'm being mildly conservative and only picking up 24 of those...
remember... Warner hasn't given us the rest of their catalog stuff past 5/8/07 (Matrix excluded, of course...)
Damnationdoormat 03-28-07, 02:28 PM Shaun of the Dead
:D :D :D :D YES! :D :D :D :D

I know. :D
mt-parker 03-28-07, 02:45 PM Dragonheart in May can't wait!!!
I will add that one if the PQ and AQ are good.
Brajesh 03-28-07, 02:58 PM This format war may actually turn out to be a good thing! :D
Baronken 03-28-07, 02:58 PM Misleading thread title. There are only 17 new titles announced through July. The rest were already announced previously. Great news though. :)
tkbryant 03-28-07, 03:01 PM It's about time the HD camp starts showing some teeth!! This is how you win a format war! You announce said titles and then unlike FOX you actually go and release them on there announced dates. WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!! :D
thewretched22 03-28-07, 03:02 PM Can't wait for Dante's Peak in HD, its a guilty pleasure of mine.
Misleading thread title. There are only 17 new titles announced through July. The rest were already announced previously. Great news though. :)
The article states that these titles are now confirmed as being scheduled for release in those months. I don't think they were that definate before. :)
RockStrongo 03-28-07, 03:12 PM When did the Bourne Identitly get announced?
Shaun of the Dead
:D :D :D :D YES! :D :D :D :D
Expect HOT FUZZ later on this year as well :D
The list of releases will of course get longer with films like
- Bourne Ultimatum
- 300
- Zodiac
and a lot more in Q4. The time before christmas will see some huge titles, I can feel it!
RockStrongo 03-28-07, 03:24 PM I just wish New Line would step up!!
bunkaroo 03-28-07, 03:29 PM Shouldn't Payback Straight Up count as day and date as well? The new version is becoming available on DVD and HD the same day.
Nice list, but I'm waiting for the big bang.
A title that will be ripped of the shelves.
MidnightWatcher 03-28-07, 03:36 PM Nice list, but I'm waiting for the big bang.

This holiday season will see many of those for HD DVD I'm sure. :D

gashog301 03-28-07, 03:44 PM Shaun of the Dead

Just how good is this Shaun Of The Dead???
kevink109 03-28-07, 03:59 PM Thankfully The Bourne Identity is getting released- I will take bourne and Darkman, and if the reviews are decent I will consider Streets of Fire.
Well considering we had a solid 80 day drought I like the pace of recent releases, I just hope there is something left for the big holiday showdown-
TV Casualty 03-28-07, 04:03 PM What the heck is with people not thinking that The Matrix will be "ripped from the shelves?" There are only maybe three or four other franchises that can compete on a "wish list" level...especially with this early adopter/geek crowd that high def is still limited to.
Billy Madison in HD? Thank god! Truly, what the format was made for. I can't wait to see old man Clemens put out the flaming bag with his boots...IN 1080P. I'll get you damn kids for this. YOU'RE ALL GONNA DIE.
Eric D. 03-28-07, 04:07 PM Just how good is this Shaun Of The Dead???
It's really damn good.
FREEDOM WRITERS is NOT day and date. Why?
 waooooooooo!!!! HD DVD MUSIC!!!!!
I LOVED IT
. Yes Live in Montreux
· Santana: Hymns for Peace :D
· Deep Purple: They all Came Down to Montreux :)
nharmon91 03-28-07, 04:18 PM Just how good is this Shaun Of The Dead???
Amazing. Humor, gore, emotions, in 1 british movie. What more do you want.
Greg Matty 03-28-07, 04:28 PM Some of these titles are worth owning, but when I already have the SD-DVD, I won't be paying for a 2nd copy. Studios really need to release HD-DVD and SD-DVD on the same day. I assume that is what everyone means by day and date?
The problem with filling catalog titles is that the scheduling it arbitrary. The only way to prove commitment is to have day and date release on HD-DVD with SD-DVD.
I have authored DVD's myself and it isn't that difficult to do. Only the extras can conceivably make authoring a DVD take time. I don't really care about extras. Just release the HD-DVD of the movie with awesome picture and sound and do so 120 days after the theatrical release. Three months later you can release the special edition with all the extras.
Greg
TheCrow1994 03-28-07, 04:32 PM I think I need to get a second job. :D
Oh my, there are a lot of titles that I'm interested in buying on that list. And we're only half into the year!
metalsaber 03-28-07, 04:42 PM Shaun of the Dead
:D :D :D :D YES! :D :D :D :D
If only that was Dawn of the Dead.
ricwhite 03-28-07, 04:42 PM Jan - March :
Poseidon Adventure
Happy Feet
The Departed
Children of Men
April:
None
May:
Matrix Trilogy (ordered)
Flags of Our Fathers (?)
Dragonheart (?)
June:
Trading Places (?)
July:
Dante’s Peak
The Bourne Identity
Total through July: 12 I’m glad things are picking up. There’s a few titles I’m really looking forward to. There are many I’m still waiting for, however. Most on the list I’m just not interested in. A few are rentals.
audiophile897 03-28-07, 04:49 PM Deliver us from eva.........lol funny. I actually didn't mind watching it but why in the world does it need to be in hd?
romanesq 03-28-07, 05:18 PM  waooooooooo!!!! HD DVD MUSIC!!!!!

Deepest Purple! Missed the Lebanon show due to Hezzbully but will get this no doubt.
b.greenway 03-28-07, 05:21 PM Just how good is this Shaun Of The Dead???
Modern comic/horror classic in my opinion, ymmv.
Not bad, could always be better, still would love to see at least one more of the BIG BOYS show up already, something like a Jaws or Braveheart, etc, but still, can't complain...for 'me' I see must buys as:
March:
Happy Feet (just bought)
Children of Men (just bought)
April:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Nutty Professor
May:
The Complete Matrix Trilogy
40-Year Old Virgin Unrated
The Road Warrior
Smokey & the Bandit
June:
Born on the 4th of July
Trading Places
I've never seen any of the Bourne flicks, so I could easily add them if I ever get around to catching one and seeing what the fuss is about, but still, 10 or so new movies over the next few months (barring any surprise releases ala The Matrix ;)) is a normal pace for me, plus the 12 I have and the three freebies on the way puts me close to 30 GREAT movies by summer, I can live with that considering I just bought my player in Jan, and still have a few sitting on the shelves I will buy if another drought hits (like Million Dollar Baby, MI:III, V)...keep it up HD-DVD! :)
Dave Mack 03-28-07, 05:23 PM Agreed, where is New Line?
Dark City
Blade
Friday
LOTR....
What happened to Brazil???
studiotan 03-28-07, 05:39 PM What happened to Brazil???
And Conan :(
delrmx01 03-28-07, 06:23 PM Deliver us from eva.........lol funny. I actually didn't mind watching it but why in the world does it need to be in hd?
This is a chick flick right? Then for the wifes --of course :D
Deliver us from eva.........lol funny. I actually didn't mind watching it but why in the world does it need to be in hd?
You watch your mouth sir!!!
That is one of my wife's favorite...and it would look great in HD, thank you very much. :)
Agreed, where is New Line?
Dark City
Blade
Friday
LOTR....
Can't freaking wait. You just listed 4 of my favorites.
Robert George 03-28-07, 06:44 PM To you guys that claim you are only interested in 3 or 4 titles on that list, I say you should seriously consider a new hobby, because you damn sure aren't movie fans.
Sheesh.
Mark Booth 03-28-07, 06:46 PM Trading Places - A perky Jaime Lee Curtis in high definition. I'm in! :)
Mark
To you guys that claim you are only interested in 3 or 4 titles on that list, I say you should seriously consider a new hobby, because you damn sure aren't movie fans.

I have at lease 25 that are bought...i might even talk myself into 10-15 more.

Agreed! The number one complaint was....no movies. This....shows their is life for this format and I could not be happier.
As for releases...i have a few I will spend cash on but the I'm interested in the most would be Road Warrior. not somuch because I like the movie...but I am really dying to see how good they can make that movie look considering how grainy and sandy (obviously) it looked when it came out. Can they improve the quality? I am really wondering how they can pull this one off.
Reginald Trent 03-28-07, 07:49 PM Deliver us from eva.........lol funny. I actually didn't mind watching it but why in the world does it need to be in hd?
For the same reason as any other movie. Why would it bother you as I'm sure I can name others but choose not to. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean others won't. BTW I enjoyed the movie and look forward to buying it when released.
Damnationdoormat 03-28-07, 07:56 PM Just how good is this Shaun Of The Dead???
It's one of the best Horror Comedies in history and a perfect homage to one of the greatest Horror films of all time, 1978's Dawn of the Dead.
Is Scarface coming after July? :( Dang it! LOL
Tim Glover 03-28-07, 08:38 PM Yeah, what Dave M said...where is NEW LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only studio that has ZERO hd titles.
BTW, great list. :) Bourne Identity! Many others. I'm already broke.
New tagline: Will sell plasma for HD DVDs. :D
madpoet 03-28-07, 08:50 PM Shaun of the dead went from hysterical to deadly serious and then back to hysterical in the blink of an eye. Great movie, but man I wasn't expecting the late middle to end.
Dave Mack 03-28-07, 08:59 PM so true.
:)
What the heck is with people not thinking that The Matrix will be "ripped from the shelves?" There are only maybe three or four other franchises that can compete on a "wish list" level...especially with this early adopter/geek crowd that high def is still limited to.
Key word: HiDef!
I'm sure the HD crowd would rip this title from the shelves if the extras were in HD.
Not having the extras in HD only makes people want to buy the movies in HD.
People have already bought the extras in SD. So, why buy them again in SD?
WB needs to make this the "ultimate" Matrix Box Set!
Ahhh...Scent of a Woman ...That depends on the woman :D
This format war may actually turn out to be a good thing! :DIt always was. :D
Bob Black 03-28-07, 09:14 PM ...and don't forget Universal will be adding Breach to their June releases and Hot Fuzz to their July offerings as well, according to the original list. Two more excellent day-and-date releases to grab! :D
filmfreak 03-28-07, 09:17 PM Getting!

So, you believe they will release 300 titles in '07. They fell 50 titles short of goal in '06. My best guess is they will fall 50 titles short in '07.
Hope your right!!!
:D Scarface dang it!!! LOL Ok, I'll shut up now! :D
Dave Mack 03-28-07, 09:35 PM "say hello to my lil' friend!"
Hell, I'm waiting for Flash Gordon!
;)
Paul Cordingley 03-28-07, 10:22 PM I simply can't keep adding to my pre-order list on Amazon, it's getting silly.
... or can I :D
Sytadel 03-28-07, 11:18 PM There you go HD-DVD buyers. Still not enough on that list to make me buy into HD-DVD. Most of the movies I want on that list are going to be available on Blu Ray. Universal really need to step up to the plate and releases some actual great movies instead of the popular niche titles like The Good Sheppard and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind.
As much as I love the above mentioned Jim Carrey movie,it's not going to help the format concerning consumers who wouldn't even have a clue what that movie is. Nor do a huge amount of people want to sit there and watch a 3 hour epic about the CIA which is truly about a guys boring personal life.
A lot of Blu Ray exclusives are instantly recognizable and sold extremely well on DVD with legions of fans.
I'm just trying to figure out if blu ray fans could be any more condescending. He's not right is he?
GizmoDVD 03-28-07, 11:44 PM So, you believe they will release 300 titles in '07. They fell 50 titles short of goal in '06. My best guess is they will fall 50 titles short in '07.
Hope your right!!!
Let me know when all those promised Fox titles get released.
SEMAJ92 03-28-07, 11:44 PM I'm just trying to figure out if blu ray fans could be any more condescending. He's not right is he?
I hope not.
Dave Mack 03-28-07, 11:57 PM I didn't buy into an HD format to be able to buy what Joe and Jane 6 pk. prefer. I bought in because I want to buy movies that I personally like.
I love Eternal Sunshine and would rather own that than POTC II... So I'm a bit jealous.
but what do I know?
Topweasel 03-28-07, 11:58 PM I'm just trying to figure out if blu ray fans could be any more condescending. He's not right is he?
Depends is it enough for him, maybe not. Blu-Ray has even more movies and there isn't enough from them to convince me to go blu, I am sure that holds true for him two.
What I don't understand is how even just three very popular very successful movies from the best comedic actor since Tom Hanks, is a bad thing or won't help HD-DVD out. Thats just those three, I am sure many of those movie are once that would convince people to buy in. Monty Python movies have a niche set of people who will buy in. Road Warrior as well. So on and So on. People need to stop using their own tastes to develop theories on the success a format. Same thing for those who keep saying 2 400 million dollar domestic movies won't do the same for BD (PotC).
Jonny_eh 03-29-07, 12:01 AM Firstly, am I the only one here super excited for The Big Lebowski? I thought this was a cult classic?!
Secondly, when '300' is released, it will be ripped from shelves like Casino Royale was, too bad it's format neutral, won't help HD DVD much there. HD DVD needs some Spielberg and Zemekis films. Maybe Universal needs a hit in the theatres too. Hard to compete with Spider-man 3, Pirates, and Casino Royale.

but what do I know?
Yes Dave it's not easy having discerning tastes in movies. There's so much "herd" mentality here. If a movie does 100 million at the boxoffice that suddenly means I have to buy it. The movies that "move" me the most are often these small movies that just suck me in. I enjoyed PotC II but if felt like a 2 hour trailer for part III.
Now ESotSP is a movie that you have to sit back and think about. There are times when you want to think about your movie (Children of Men) and times when you just want easy enteretainment (Xmen)
Dave Mack 03-29-07, 12:26 AM yep. There are films that are enjoyable but disappear from my thoughts a few seconds after they are over and then there are films like Eternal sunshine, Requiem, Donnie Darko that really strike a chord with me, make me think and want to see them again. COM just got netflixed to us today, but alas, only in SDdvd.
:)

Awhh Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite movie. Long live Darko.
JaylisJayP 03-29-07, 12:41 AM I'm all over Sneakers, The Game and Smokin' Aces. May go for Lebowski and Matrix.
Dave Mack 03-29-07, 12:42 AM Top!
They are doing a STAGE version of DD again in Boston!
Frank the Bunny! ON STAGE!

azmodien 03-29-07, 01:43 AM Firstly, am I the only one here super excited for The Big Lebowski?
No, its a brilliant film and one of my all-time favorites. An essential purchase for me.
Grubert 03-29-07, 03:17 AM The claim of 300 titles in 2007 was always intended to include worldwide totals -- not just US releases! You need to include Studio Canal and other foreign HD-DVD markets.
Nope. Worldwide target was 600.
Nope. Worldwide target was 600.
I believe that total includes last years titles.....The group expects that there should be 600 total titles available by year end....The 300 worldwide was new releases this year....
here is a link to back it up for the 600 total not new

I'll get a good number of those movies being released but must say for 70 movies I thought there would be many more there that I REALLY must have
Tes7769 03-29-07, 08:09 AM Thank you for the comprehensive list.I printed it out and compiling a shopping list for the next 120 days.:)
To you guys that claim you are only interested in 3 or 4 titles on that list, I say you should seriously consider a new hobby, because you damn sure aren't movie fans.
Sheesh.
... or, rather, you have good taste in movies and/or are discerning in how you spend your entertainment dollars.

I cannot imagine buying movies just for the sake of buying, and especially just so you can support a freaking format. Better to use the money for charity than to buy boxes of unopened discs. But that's mi dos centavos ;)
What sucks is there are only 4 non Matrix titles I am interested in picking up.
Same boat here. Most of the titles never made it to my SDDVD wish list, much less pay-a-premium HDDVD list. So many great titles, so many so-so HD releases.
Sanborn 03-29-07, 12:29 PM Holy crap someone rob a bank for me. This is what I require (and wont have $$ for). I think if some of you are honestly reaching the point where you only want 3 of these movies......you need to find a new hobby. And I am not kidding.

I didnt like Flags either....The indian soldier's whining got on my nerves for some reason. It seemed like he was crying in every scene.
I DID like Letters....excellent movie.
As if this were no enough good news, Toshiba just dropped HD DVD players in Europe to £349 to combat the PS3.

The obvious best thing about Flags was...yes you guessed it: The war scenes themselves. Those opening salvos on the island while the guys were in their bunks - the booms, etc. was astonishing. This had to be some of the best sounds in a war movie I've heard. There were just some great war scenes in this movie as well to go along with the sound. The other parts though, related to how the flag guys dealt with the publicity was less than entertaining.
HPforMe 03-29-07, 08:17 PM :)

Unless you're a blu ray only fan right? I buy and I'm sure most high def buyers buy movies because of the experience of watching movies in high def and the audio as well. And to see some of the older movies released which have great tranfers makes me appreciate this medium so much more.
Bob Black 03-29-07, 08:32 PM Didn't Universal announce Slapshot several months back as well? That would be another buy for me, wonder why some just vanish like that. =/
Universal's press release from 2 months ago made mention of certain titles that would be coming in 2007. This list included some films that have not been part of the announced list through July, and will no doubt be included in the second half of the year. Slapshot was among those titles, as were Scarface, Dawn Of the Dead, Meet the Fockers, Psycho, American Pie, Inside Man, Pride & Prejudice, Brazil, Erin Brockovich, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and Battlestar Galactica.
And remember -- there are still about 35 additional titles from Universal coming in 2007 that we've not even heard of yet! We know Breach, Dead Silence and Hot Fuzz will arrive this summer day & date, and it seems likely from previous announcements that we'll see Conan the Barbarian, Blues Brothers, The Black Dahlia, and a few others. Perhaps even Jaws, which has been hinted at.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
40-Year Old Virgin Unrated
The Frighteners
Dragonheart
Being John Malkovich
The Untouchables
... if they were coming to Germany this year! Which I don´t expect.
Batman Begins was released today here and Harry Potter 4 was pushed back a few months.
I wonder how long it will be until I can buy the ones above.

I see 43 I'm most likely buy, a few more that I'm interested in. I already own the two Mission Impossible movies. I also find it odd that when lists like this are released there are frequently people who only want a hand full of them. If you aren't in this hobby for the movies then why buy the gear?

a lot of people can't or don't want to spend $50-100/week to see the same 3-5 movies/week they can rent from netflix for $5/week.
i love buying movies but logistically speaking i'm only going to rewatch a handful of them over the next few years, so i try to limit my purchases to only my absolute favorites or demo material.

No I get that. I'm a movie collector, I like to have them so I can watch what ever i want when the mood strikes, or so when people come over they have a ton to chose from.
Not everyone is that way, but when a list of 70 movies comes out (and I've seen this many times before) there are many members here who say stuff like "there are only 3 that interest me". Or "I only care about z, x, and y the rest blah" or whatever. If you can only find a few movies on a list like this that you are into, then why buy an HD DVD player and sound system in the first place?
I understand not buying a ton of movies, especially with Netflix. I'm not directing it at those people, it's the ones that act as if a list of movies like this isn't something to be excited about. If it isn't then I don't know why that person is here
And Conan :(
Conan is still listed on Future Shop's (Canada) website so here's hoping it's coming. They better remaster the soundtrack as well.

i dont' get it. we buy HD DVD because we want to watch what we want to watch with great picture and sound quality. why is that so weird? why should i spend $600 on a bunch of titles i don't care much about? why not save it for when they finally release more title's that i do or put it to vacation or photo equipment or better speakers, etc.? if someone only likes 3-4 on that list how is that weird?
After having yet again another "lemon" disc from Universal (Smokin' Aces) I won't be purchasing any of their titles. Not even the SD version...

Sounds like they've got some serious QC issues lately. I actually was one of the lucky ones I guess. My HD-A2 played The Good Shepherd and Children Of Men without issue. Guess I'll find out about Smokin' Aces once I rent it.
PS: 92 DTheater? I hadn't realized they even put out that many titles. Wow! Is that all of them? :)

My point is that if you can only pick 3 or 4 of a list of that many movies than it wouldn't seem you are much of a movie buff. Why own expensive gear if your not that into movies in the first place

UCFKevin 05-01-07, 03:22 AM There's a difference between a movie buff and a collector.
Movie buffs are into movies in general or have a specific knowledge of a specific type of movie. Collectors just get whatever's available, regardless of quality or content.
Timfrommass appears to be a collector. I consider myself a movie buff, and it seems skibum is, too.
I'm not gonna shell out $30 bucks for Failure to Launch on HD DVD just because it's on HD DVD. I'm gonna buy stuff that I want to have and want to watch. Not something that MIGHT tickle someone's fancy that comes over.
I'm only gonna buy the stuff that counts. The stuff that DESERVES to be seen in HD. Not just any run of the mill crappy movie that no one remembers.

Santana, Yes, Deep Purple Topline Montreux HD DVD Triple Header from Eagle Vision
A trio of new concert discs from music legends Deep Purple, Yes and Carlos Santana, all recorded live at the Montreux Rock Festival, highlight Eagle Vision's summer line-up of HD DVD releases.
Three titles are all set to debut on June 26: 'Yes: Live at Montreux,' 'Deep Purple: They All Came Down to Montreux' and 'Santana: Hymns for Peace - Live at Montreux.'
Of the three, only the Yes disc is devoid of extras. The Deep Purple release will include a complete ten-song mini-concert recorded live at the Hard Rock London, plus a band interview. Santana's 'Hymns for Peace' will also feature three bonus tracks, behind-the-scenes footage, and an interview with the guitar god.
No tech specs are yet available, but stay tuned.
Note that there was no mention at presstime of any companion Blu-ray release, but Eagle Vision's two most recent high-def music titles, 'Toto: Live in Amsterdam' and 'Alice Cooper: Live at Montreux' saw simultaneous release on both next-gen formats, so there's a good chance these three titles will also make it to Blu-ray.
The distributor has set a $24.95 list price for each title in its Montreux triple-header.
timfrommass 05-01-07, 01:37 PM It really has nothing to do with buying movies regardless of content, it has to do with the fact that I enjoy movies. There are many good movies on that list, and I like to own as many good movies as possible so that I can choose what I want to watch when I want to watch it. It is also great to have a wide selection for people to choose from when entertaining. I just can't believe that people can't pick more than a hand full of good movies on that list, it must be a curse to be so discerning

Just different strokes. How many foreign films on that list? Films made prior to 1980? Huge hits or established classics?
There's definitely some good films on the list, but it doesn't surprise me that even a "movie buff" can walk away from a random list of 70+ films and only want a handful. There's about 100,000 standard DVDs released and most of us own only a very small subset of those. To a certain degree, we're all pretty discerning.

Topweasel 05-01-07, 05:05 PM There's a difference between a movie buff and a collector.

Then there is people like me (Timfrommass may also be one) that is a fan of movies as entertainment. Its about liking a movie, not about the performance someone gave in it or the artistic style and political commentary the director put into it. People try to make movies out to be more then they are, they are there for our enjoyment. Bad acting can bring a person out of movie and if a director can make an enjoyable movie for me using his artistic preferences and include his political commentary then more power to them. But to say that an otherwise boring or disagreeble movie should be adorned because of the things stated above (crash being a great example) and the enjoyable cookie cutter movies (not saying Failure to launch is) are worthless. While I don't condone purchasing a movie just because it is on HD-DVD a good thing, people can have desire for movies and enjoy that type of movie and wouldn't suggest any movie not be released. While you might not enjoy the list of movies coming out, it is a very large list that should satisfy almost anyone but the people who think that every movie needs to be Best Picture Nominee.
