Just got my Oppo 981 and I'm lovin' it.

Out of the box, I set all video settings to zero/off and set it to ouput 1080p.

Set Audio to DD Raw. The sound is better going through my HTIB than the same DVD played directly from the same HTIB. Go figure!!

Video is excellent. Don't see any macroblocking in the couple of DVDs I've messed with.

All my TV settings are the same as set for my SA8300HD (see post#2405). I played some with the TV settings but kept coming back to those used for the SA8300HD.

After just a few hours, I'm a huge fan of Oppo.

Oh yea...I forgot to mention, this was a refurb. Same warranty, etc. and almost $50 cheaper.

I've had an oppo 970hd for a couple of months, and im really impressed. It took me a bit of time to find this forum, but I'm here .. now... YAY!

I've had the 981hd for about 2 weeks and what a difference. I've gone through many DVD players in the last couple of years and the Oppo is definitely the best DVD player out there right now (my old Integra dps7.3 a close second).

Have called Oppo as well and their support has been great, so far. It beats any support I have gotten in the past from some of the big corps out there (i.e. sony).

I bought the oppo last week for my 50" panny. Before that I was running a cheapo $30 memorex DVD player via component. So you can tell it was a big upgrade, and wow what a difference! Don't regret the purchase one bit.
