Mixed feelings on this game.

1. Best opening scene of a game in a LONG time. Cinema like graphics, intense action, very impressive.

2. Worse training in a game in a LONG time. No graphics, all blue squares as they show you how to work with your Mech.

3. Now, once you get in the game, the graphics on your mech are very impressive. The special effects of when you are firing your weapons are way cool. The rocket launcher that fires like 10 rockets out one after the other is amazing. The power slide is fantastic. Overall your mech rocks.

4. The graphics of everything else in the game sucks. Everything is gray, bland, featureless. No details, almost looks like something is wrong like it wasn't finished. Truly ruins the game, especially with how awesome your own mech works.

5. Every mission is about 5 minutes apart. A dozen or so missions per act, but wow they are short.

6. Very confusing trying to switch out to a new mech or customize it. Screens are not that friendly, nearly impossible to get a new mech, even a crappy model after you selected your initial mech. Everything costs a lot and you do not get that much money.

Overall, dissapointed. Such potential. The mech you control is freaking awesome, the turbo jump is one of the coolest effects in a game ever. Its a shame nothing else in the game looks as good.

I was also impressed by the opening. Not being a worldly mech operator myself, I figure the easier the better to start so I picked the easiest-to-operate one. I'd have preferred easier-to-see radar during training, but I got by. Mechassault drove me away by requiring long stages be completed properly, so I hope this one is different...

I've heard many of these complaints, particularly the short levels. Sega seem known for doing weird things in some of thier games. Maybe they are trying to hook in the japanese gamer with the shorter stages? Maybe they think the japanese gamer has a shorter attention span? We all know they are shorter in other areas  , but maybe sega has done some research and found they like this type of game. Just a hypothesis

Let us know how the multiplayer is. Nowadays, I don't even play single player campaigns.

I played mp by a friend. can be fun but only once you've built a mech too your liking.
thing you can do 8-8 but never got into a fight like that.

its still on my maybe list. might just borrow for a bit...

played through the training, then the 1st level, turned it off, went back to graw 2.....have no interest in playing ac4 again. Funny, tried def jam the same night, felt the same way about that too. Waste of money for me

Major Nelson sez that there is an AC4 demo out now (for us westerners).
