View Full Version : New Sony projectors with MSP under $1000 rwestley 03-29-07, 10:11 AM It seems that Sony is coming out with two new projectors in June One has a MSP under $1000 http://www.twice.com/article/CA6428741.html?nid=2402 Liverpool 03-29-07, 10:47 AM There must be a lot of very worried companies out there now. This will blow their over priced equipment out of the water. Please please please let my panny 900 bulb last till june. Pedro2 03-29-07, 10:53 AM Very, very interesting! Watch those Panasonic, Sanyo, Epson 720p prices plummet in response. Perhaps all these projectors will be in the $1K range soon...gotta love competition. Noose 03-29-07, 11:19 AM I hope they meet the June release. That should put them in Canadian stores by Oct or so. I wonder what the optimized light output will be? rwestley 03-29-07, 11:38 AM I expect we will see 1080P projectors at $2000MSP soon. I wonder what the actual selling price will be for the new Sony projectors? I also wonder what Panasonic, Sanyo, and others will do to their prices. We may see a 720P $500 projector soon. Things are moving fast. Pedro2 03-29-07, 11:45 AM I expect we will see 1080P projectors at $2000MSP soon. I wonder what the actual selling price will be for the new Sony projectors? Well, the Hitachi is almost at that that low price point already. Yes, things are indeed moving fast, and may start to move even faster. My guesstimate is a 1080p projector for $2K by next January and most 720p LCD projectors at $1K or below. Of the two announced Sony projectors, I would think the higher end one would have a street price of around $999...but who knows (I assume we are allowed to say this on the forum since it is pure speculation) Legairre 03-29-07, 12:02 PM Did a little googling and found that the higher priced VPL-AW15 will have a constrast of 12000:1 and 1100 lumens. Also several articles say June is the steet date so lets hope Sony makes it. rwestley 03-29-07, 12:06 PM It will be an interesting holiday season. Let's see how Panasonic and others react. I would expect a big price reduction on the AE.100 very soon or Panasonic might lauch announce new models earlier than Sept. I also wonder what this will do the the smaller players. I always thought that the projectors were overpriced in comparision to LCD & Plasma sets. I guess Sony and others want to make the projector a real mass consumer product. Legairre 03-29-07, 12:17 PM I was thinking of replacing my Z2 with a HD1000 because the Z2 has 5600 hours on the lamp. I just can't see spending $300 for a new lamp when a new HD1000 can be had for under $900 from an authorized dealer. Now I'll wait as until summer to see what happens with prices. I'm just hoping my lamp doesn't go until then. olletsoc 03-29-07, 12:25 PM this topic is already being discussed in another thread charlie3133 03-29-07, 02:51 PM I was thinking of replacing my Z2 with a HD1000 because the Z2 has 5600 hours on the lamp. But I guess, if you are always waiting for the next greatest thing all that happens is that you end up buying nothing LOL. Argghhhhh Legairre 03-29-07, 04:11 PM Yep I had a buddy who use to say he couldn't buy a PC because he was waiting for some great new feature or model. After a couple years he finally realized you just have to buy the darn thing and it will be outdated before you get it home. I'm still leaning toward the HD1000 because I'd love to have better blacks. My Z2 is LCD and I'd rather try a DLP, but then again the 12000:1 contrast of the new Sony would be nice but the lumens are still below the HD10000. I'm in a bit of a holding pattern because even with the high milage aon my lamp it's very veiwable, but if the lamp finally dies then I'm buying the next day. Funny thing is a year ago I would have just bought a lamp and been happy with my Z2, but with the low price and performance of the HD1000 and the new Sonys I'm thinking new projector instead of new lamp. |
