I have had Enemy at the Gates (Stalingrad) ordered, and just received an e-mail to say it won't play in 1st gen players.

I'm totally gutted. I was really looking forward to seeing this discs. Movietyme state they are unsure whether v2.1 firmware will sort the problem. Is v2.1 firmware available, and is anyone able to confirm whether it works?

2.1 within the next 10 days. Iv no idea if it will help with the playback of this title, but i would hope so though as i might pick this one up.

Do you know anyonelse that has another HDDVD player, it may be the disc is bad.

Nobody with A1's or XA1's can play this disc. There's another thread about it.

I know a couple of people who have the film, and have asked them which players they have watched it on. Will report back later...

I believe this is only true if you have 2.0 on your machine. Anything older and it should still work. I don't think 2.1 will resolve this as it's a fairly recent problem.

Stalingrad didnt work on my HD-E1 (XA2).

I bought it and it doesnt work on my A2, I have Upgrade my firmware 3 imes since I bought it and it hasnt worked with any. Up until now I havent heard of anybody being able to play it except for someone who had the new Toshiba A20.

I really like Enemy at the Gates. I would like to see it on HD DVD. I don't have an HD DVD player yet. I am thinking about getting a Toshiba HD A2. It would be a shame if I could not watch Enemy at the Gates on HD DVD.

Do you think that eventually I will be able to watch Enemy at the Gates on a Toshiba HD A2?

It didn't work on my XA1. I'd love to hear if anyone with a XA1 and 2.1 tried to play it.

No matter, please review the WARNING posted with this title (on the Xploited site), it will not play on A1's and maybe other models, been there done that, no fun. There is also some issues getting a refund/exchange for this title, all in all a bummer. Thank goodness it worked out in the end for me, much as I wanted the title I was able to exchange it. :)

It's reportedly known to play fine on 2nd generation machines and 360 add on. Those models are sold in Europe too. It plays fine on my Japanese HD-XF2 which is Japan market's variant of HD-A2. The first generation machines HD-A1 and HD-XA1 were never released in European market and apparently Pathe only made sure it would work with the models that were being sold in Europe.

Aspect ratio on the disc is 1.77. Just confirmed it with my player.

I picked this title up in France in August at a Virgin MegaStore. Worked perfectly on my XA2. Haven't tried it for either my A1 or HD DVD addon hooked up to my PC. Maybe I'll give that a go.

I have both the XA-1 and the XA2 and it only plays on the XA-2.

There are no other HD DVD releases of this except the French Pathe release.

I want to get this HD DVD but I noticed on the Exploited site not only does it not work in the A1 but also does not work in HD-A3, HD-A30 and HD-A35 players.

Reading this thread it appears that the issues with the A1 have not been resolved what about the others? I am particularly interested in the HD-A35 playback ability as that is the model I have.
