I was wondering if anyone here had heard of the new panasonic DVD-S53K that upconverts dvd's to 1080P. I saw it in Best Buy last night and it sells for just under 100

I saw in the description on the box that it's supposed to be specialized for current panasonic HDTV's, so I was wondering if anyone has bought one and what there thoughts are, because I've searched all around and haven't seen anything on it, not even at www.videohelp.com in their dvd section, so I figure it's pretty new.

I have a 42PX600U that only does 720P, but the price seems right for the dvd player because I have gift certificates that bring the price even lower for me. Basically I'm just looking to see how this player measures up to others, and if there's any PQ bonus I'd get from having a Panny Plasma.

EDIT: I saw that the player doesn't even show up on panasonics web site for sale or support. But it is being sold at certain places.

I have it, it has excellent picture quality, is quiet, runs very cool, never gets dvd's warm or hot like some players. It can change resolutions on the fly on HDMI from 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. The Panasonic HDAVI Control I haven't tried so can't speak for it but overall the player is nice. Panasonic has gone with the latest trend of removing the forward and reverse buttons off the unit which I don't like to see that Panasonic is playing into cheaping out their product like the rest!

I've used some HDMI DVD Players that were not very stable with problems with skips, freezing, and not great PQ but the new Panasonic DVD-S53 is very stable and doesn't have the problems that other players have that I've tried so I'm pleased with it's performance.
