View Full Version : Where Do You Buy Your HD-DVD's
Tornillo 03-29-07, 07:41 PM We have BB, CC, Wally World, and Hastings locally. I wouldn't buy the cure for cancer from Hastings, Wally World has limited titles, and CC is more expensive than BB.
If it's a title I have to have right away, I'll do BB. Mostly I use Amazon.
Where do you buy yours and it is mail order?
andrewjh009 03-29-07, 07:44 PM Wally world lol, reminds me of that theme park on national lampoons vacation with chevy chase, does it have some sort of clown theme, we have wal mart (branded asda here in the uk) i mostly use dvd pacific or buy used discs from forums.
I only buy my HD DVDs online. Mostly at amazon.de/com, axelmusic and dvdcrave.
Never bought a HD Disc in regular brick-and-mortar shop before.
Brad1963 03-29-07, 08:18 PM Laserblazer (in West L.A.) Amazon.com.
Amazon almost all the time. Anywhere local is overpaying.
hd nOOb 03-29-07, 08:29 PM I have bought all my HD DVD's at CC, Wally World, Best Buy and Target.
Columbus, Ohio
None on line yet .......... Matrix?
BOSS10L 03-29-07, 09:20 PM Amazon unless it is a gift card, and then BB.
SirDucky 03-29-07, 09:24 PM Buy.com Free shipping if order is over $25.00, no tax, great service. You can still get 10 bucks off your order if you go through the google checkout.
With the 10% discount and Prime shipping, amazon is the only place I order from.
tormond 03-29-07, 09:50 PM Amazon, Buy.com, DDDVD, umm whoever else had the $30 off google checkout thing.. I wore that coupon a new one), I also occasionally buy them at BB, CC, Target, Gamestop/EB (this is my favorite as they price used HDDVD the same as normal DVD for the most part..Fearless for $11.99 whooohooo). Pretty much anywhere but Wal-Mart as I have a 10 year so far boycott against them
I'm Amazon all the way as well. With the 10% and no tax and having prime shipping; it's as simple as that for me.
I've bought 2-3 at BestBuy and like 1 at Target out of the 18 or so I own. Target's prices aren't bad, they just don't have much of a selection and BestBuy is overpriced for sure, don't plan on buying any more from them, at least for the next year.
wildfire99 03-29-07, 10:19 PM What's this 10% Amazon thing I keep seeing mentioned?
spunky721 03-29-07, 10:22 PM If you bought either a player or 3 high def discs at once last year, you get a 10% discount on all future high def disc purchases until the end of this year. Great promo!!
FatiusJeebs 03-29-07, 10:23 PM I tend to buy them at BB...but after what i paid for Happy Feet....I am gonna have to reconsider.
Omegasaber 03-29-07, 10:31 PM I usually use Amazon with the few exceptions where I can get them cheaper at Wal-Mart.
plazman 03-29-07, 10:35 PM Now mostly amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, amazon.fr and xploitedcinema.com. I've stopped doing any business with BB.
Amazon almost all the time. Anywhere local is overpaying.
I definitely agree. Especially if you qualify for the 10% discount and prime shipping. Just about the only place I buy them from.
kevink109 03-29-07, 10:59 PM Amazon, Exploited, and Fry's for me- Nothing at BB... I just wish they didn't own Magnolia....
Fry's Electronics and Walmart are where ive bought all of mine.
COM 26.89 walmart
Good shepard 28.96 walmart
Fry's every non combo is 19.99 and sometimes a sale for 16.99
combos are 29.99 @ Fry's
Amazon if I can wait HF is on its way. or kids can wait LOL
MichaelHDDVD 03-29-07, 11:51 PM Amazon is the main place for me.
Best buy
Xplioted
Amazon.com
May get a few more imports. I just wish xploited would have a sale. Theirs about 5 I really want, as well as a few others..
invadergir 03-30-07, 01:33 AM Mostly i buy my movies from Amazon.com but i do also buy from Future Shop, Best Buy and a local used CD/DVD store called THE BEat Goes On which have some great deals on both used BR and HD-DVD movies. Nothing seen so far over $22 which is pretty good for Cnd buyers like myself
jason forster 03-30-07, 02:09 AM flea markets, it's a gold mine for hd-dvd and blueray.
Canary_Jules 03-30-07, 05:48 AM Half and half here from Amazon.com and DVDPacific
Anymore, Just two palces and they are both the same.
Amazon.com & target.com
The reason to go to Target.com for me is I can buy a GC from target and use it at T.com and not have to use my CC.
bsk4life 03-30-07, 08:09 AM I buy almost all of mine from BB. I have them match Target's online price (which is Amazon's price) or Fry's, depending on which is cheaper. I could buy from Amazon and not pay tax but I think the B&M stores are going to be integral to mass adoption of a hi-def format so I want to give them the sales. Plus, I like having it in my hands "right now" and I don't mind the reward zone points.
Evangelo2 03-30-07, 11:21 AM Amazon, best prices, Prime has already paid for itself in my case :)
rugeroni 03-30-07, 12:52 PM whatever has the cheapest price...
mostly walmart, bestbuy, or amazon.
i usually dont buy from amazon unless i am willing to wait and watch it. would buy it more from them but they dont ship it until monday... free express shipping shows up on thursday for me... most cases i go to a big box after checking the websites for prices.
aaronwt 03-30-07, 12:57 PM 98% of my HD DVDs have come from Amazon. With the 10% off and an extra 3% off for using the Amazon CC($25 reward certificate for every $833 spent on Amazon) it's an excellent deal. Then add the fact that I have no taxes and free two day shpping and it's even better.
whityfrd 03-30-07, 01:00 PM i usually rent over buying discs. i have the blockbuster online rental and i get 2 to 3 hddvds a week. i usually ebay hddvds when i do buy. got the departed for $22 shipped!
zero002021 03-30-07, 01:08 PM Amazon. Best prices, 10% off all HD DVDs, and free shipping on orders over $25.
Azrael616 03-30-07, 01:13 PM Amazon
Xploited
BB if I need a quick fix.
With the exception of a couple I bought last summer at BB, and a few imports, all of mine were bought from Amazon. As others have said, they have the best prices, + 10% off, plus free 2 day shipping and no tax. B&M stores aren't even close.
J
SamwisetheBrave 03-30-07, 04:27 PM All but two from Amazon (10% off, two-day shipping, no sales tax). Xploited was the vendor for the other two.
Amazon kinda is a no brainer. Best prices, no tax and free 2 day shipping.
ClashFan 03-30-07, 05:02 PM Amazon.com.
40% off total w/ the promo. Free shipping. No sales tax.
Sweet!
arctictropical 03-30-07, 06:19 PM 75 percent from Amazon. (I have also purchased from Hastings when I don't want to wait for Amazon). Wal Mart just started carrying HD in my area, but from now on, Amazon is where I will purchase any future HD DVDs based on a huge price difference.
SEMAJ92 03-30-07, 06:55 PM Primarily, I buy them at my local MovieStop. Occasionally, I will hit a Circuit City, Best Buy or Target (it seemed like Target was the only place in Tampa to buy Batman Begins).
Now, I hate Wally World but for the new releases (like The Departed), I'll usually hit those guys up at around 2:00 am on release day. However over the last few weeks they've nearly eliminated all but the most popular HD DVD's while adding a boatload of Blu ray movies.
