I'm reading a lot on here about the Mitz, but wonder if purchasing it will bring me enough of a difference than what I'm already seeing.

I've had the Panny for over 2 years, same bulb, no problems whatsoever...though I now notice it is a bit dimmer. I don't run the bulb at hi, but wonder if I should through the rest of its life, just for the brighter benefit.

I'm using a Dalite 92" screen, very little ambient light at night. Viewing from about 13'.

I'm seeing these Mitz units for around under $900, which I wouldn't not think was a quality projector except for what I read here.

I've been very pleased with the Panny, the wow factor is still there for us when we go from our Panny 34" HD in the living room to the 92" screen. Recently picked up a toshiba HD DVD HDA2, which has been fun.

So what do you think? I want to upgrade sometime soon, definitely don't want to "downgrade"....is the HD1000u a good option?

Assuming it will fit, the Mits will have a better picture. The colors will be richer and the overall quality will be somewhat better. But one of the big advantages to most LCDs is their placement flexibility. The HD1000 has no lens shift and a much shorter zoom. These are deal killers for many people.

If it was my money, I'd probably hold off for a while. You already have an HD projector. You won't be gaining any additional pixels moving to the DLP. I'd wait until 1080P projectors enter your budget. The time frame doesn't look to be too long.

I have both the AE700 (in a typical light-controlled home theater setting) and the HD1000U (in a different room where there is some ambient light). Both are great projectors, but they are quite different in setup and actual picture. The zoom and offset of the HD1000U would not allow me to set it up in my theater room (typical of DLP projectors which is why I went with the Panny in the first place), so you should be sure the HD1000U will fit your room before you consider swapping. Also, the DLP image differs greatly from an LCD image (I happen to like both for different purposes, but some people are solidly in one camp or the other). I see the occasional rainbow on the HD1000, but its not a big deal, and the big/bright picture is great for showing sports (GO BUCKS). However, I think that colors are more accurate/pleasing on the Panny which is why I prefer it for movies.

So, in response to your question, the image from the Mits is every bit as good as the Panny (and in some ways better, like w/ deeper blacks), but I'd recommend you view the HD1000U to ensure you like the DLP image (and make sure it fits your theater). If the bulb is going on the Panny, this would be a good time to sell it and pick up the relatively inexpensive Mits.
