View Full Version : Denon 5910 vs. 3930CI GrapeNuts 03-31-07, 09:48 AM Which has the better video quality? They share the exact same chipset (HQV Realta) VladP 03-31-07, 01:26 PM Which has the better video quality? They share the exact same chipset (HQV Realta) Look at the Secrets of Home Theater website. They compared both and concluded that 5910 was still better, but not much. GrapeNuts 03-31-07, 01:36 PM Thanks VladP. that's exactly what I was looking for DavidHir 03-31-07, 11:19 PM Which has the better video quality? They share the exact same chipset (HQV Realta) Both share the Realta deinterlacer, but the 5910 uses an ABT scaler while the 3930 uses the Realta scaler. But, as mentioned, both players are close. GrapeNuts 04-01-07, 09:48 PM Thanks David. My neighbor just bought a 5910, and I have the 3930Ci and I wanted to see where I stood. DavidHir 04-02-07, 12:22 PM I'd try hooking them both up to the same display and calibrated. There could be some "subjective" differences. I'm not sure if they share the same MPEG decoder or not. kucharsk 04-05-07, 03:38 PM BTW, the 3930 is light years ahead of the 5910 when it comes to reading damaged discs or DVD-R/DVD+Rs. I have several DVD-Rs that would cause Denon xx10 players (2910, 3910, 5910) to literally stop reading the disc. They'd freeze and wouldn't be able to progress further. The same discs play without a single glitch in the 3930. VladP 04-05-07, 06:22 PM BTW, the 3930 is light years ahead of the 5910 when it comes to reading damaged discs or DVD-R/DVD+Rs. I have played ALL types of CDs, DVD's, SACD's DVD-Audio's, dual disks, including very scratched ones and DVD-Rs and have never had any problems with reading a disk. So I think your problems was specific just to your player and not to all 5910s. btiltman 04-05-07, 07:03 PM I have played ALL types of CDs, DVD's, SACD's DVD-Audio's, dual disks, including very scratched ones and DVD-Rs and have never had any problems with reading a disk. VladP 04-06-07, 10:12 AM Ditto here..... the 3910 has been the best performing player I have ever had in this regard (and all others too!) I am not sure whether it was clear from my previous post, but I was talking about 5910, not 3930. chunkisagoonie 04-06-07, 09:53 PM I have never encountered a compatible disc that my DVD-3910 will not read. fmalczewski 10-10-07, 03:56 PM I've been somewhat disappointed with the 5910's handling of (for lack of better info) seemingly warped DVDs. Sometimes sounds like a unbalanced washing machine playing DVDs that other players make little or no noise with. Rare, but still... The other thing I dislike about the 5910 is its tendency, about once every two or three DVDs, to spit out some random digital blocks of noise. Almost like a hiccup. Replaying the same part over and no noise. Wonder if this might have been fixed with the ci upgrade firmware... Great picture, great sound otherwise... Too bad it's not perfect. |
