I've been looking at home theatre projectors recently, but can't seem to find anything with an ATSC (HDTV) tuner built in. Am I just not looking in the right places?

View Full Version : Any good projectors with HDTV tuner built in? larc919 03-31-07, 10:44 AM I've been looking at home theatre projectors recently, but can't seem to find anything with an ATSC (HDTV) tuner built in. Am I just not looking in the right places? Digital Man 03-31-07, 10:46 AM I'm not aware of any projectors with tuners built in. You would be better off going with an external tuner anyway, that way if there are problems with it or the technology changes, you just have to replace the tuner not the whole projector. Guy CT_Wiebe 04-01-07, 04:38 AM Projectors are all sold as "monitors" and none of them have tuners included. They are not considered to be TV sets. Most PJ owners either subscribe to a cable or satellite service (which supply a tuner box) or they go to a place like Wal-Mart and buy a cheap ATSC/NTSC tuner (there are a number of them made by various manufacturers). If you don't have cable or satellite, you will also need an external antenna (the best are roof mounted) in order to receive your local TV stations (the local HD channels are usually broadcast on UHF frequencies, channel 14 and up – some areas do try to use the high VHF channels for HD, but that is rare). The exceptions are the "movie-time" type "all-in-ones" which include a DVD player, 2 stereo speakers and a sub-woofer (which may or may not be optional). Some of the older PJs did have a small 2.5" mono speaker and some business type PJs may also have a small mono speaker inside. |
