Hi, I have been looking around and I am not sure I am using the correct terminology. My issue is this. I have an XBOX 360 hooked up to a Sony HS51. I am using the output on the XBOX to be 1080i. This seems to fill the screen completely and look the best for the most part, except there are waves. Like heat waves in summer, spanning the screen. I can see it better with dark backgrounds but even with light backgrounds. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this and could tell me what it is. Another thing is that it does seem to be sporadic. I was watching the unforgiven last night and it did seem to go away a bit into the movie but it always happens when I fire up the xbox and load games.
Thanks in advance
Brian

Ok, I've messed around and it seems to have something to do with 1080i. The XBOX underscans at 720p which is a pain in the arse but I also have a vga xbox cable that now makes 1280x720 look pretty damn good. I did notice that the waves are also there with the cable box so maybe it is an electric issue or something with my receiver. I would still be interested if someone is familiar with any of this.

Double check your cables. I had a problem similar to this with my Z3 and all of my sources. The cable running from the pj from the video switcher was a little loose. This allowed for interference. Make sure they are completely seated in.
Give it a try and let us know if it worked.

I just joined this forum yesterday for (I think) this exact same problem
(see "tech help...rolling colors")
In my case the xbox 360 is fine, its mostly the hd cable box thats giving me the waves.
The only thing I can think of is bad cables, but there would have to be several bad ones, in my case.
I ordered a long DVI cable to see if that helps.

It is most likely the cables. Waves tend to be interference. Rolling lines (like a band across the screen) come from a ground loop problem. Generally caused by poor grounding of the cable feed coming into your house.
You can troubleshoot the ground loop by disconecting your cable box from the system to isolate the problem. If the rolling line goes away you have found the culprit.

Wow..that was totally true!
I unplugged the cable from the cable box, and the lines stopped completly.
Now, the question is, what do I do about it
thanks johnny

Call the cable guy and ask those weiners to come out there and correctly ground your cable. They usually attach it to a post that goes into the ground.
I am sure there are other ways to fix it. Try searching on this forum for Ground Loop.
This is showing up in a lot of threads recently...cable installers are notorius for NOT adequately grounding their systems....
Simple fix: order a $10 isolation transformer from Parts Express:

PS. You might want to order a few of them; they are fragile and DO break easily!

Ahh, thanks you guys rock. I am slotted to redo my entire electrical panel so it will get lumped in with that.
