View Full Version : Getting HD1000 to properly display with PC
A/V Shawn 04-01-07, 01:21 PM Hi there,
I apologize if this has been covered in the archives, but my perhaps feeble search attempts didn't turn up anything useful for my situation. If there are URLs you can share to previous discussions, great!
Pretty simple --- I have an HD1000 projector and I just simply want to to hook it up to my PC. I have a 8800GTS card and I'm using the TV OUT output with dongle and feeding the signal to the projector via component cables.
I'm having a lot of trouble for the display properties to give me anything useful. It's mostly telling me that my display is limited to 1024x768, etc. etc. So, I can display right now at 480i (720x480) and 800x600 and even 1024x768, but obviously those are not the native resolutions I'm looking to do and they also don't look very good at all.
Basically, I want to run at 720 (1280x720), which is native for the HD1000. I'm sure you can do this based on posts I've seen around the Internet and also based on the user manual of the HD1000. So, what am I missing? What are you doing to make this work? Thanks so much for your help!
Is the problem that I'm using the TV OUT output of my video card and the dongle, should I just use my DVI oupout and us an adapter on the HD1000 to get it to analog/VGA?
Appreciate it as I've already wasted a few hours on this with no luck. Thanks!
Just use a DVI->HDMI cable and set your desktop to 1280X720X60Hz and you're set.
http://images.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/26611.jpg for $4.44 for a 3 footer. They have longer lenghts as well but you must spend more for thicker gauge for longer runs (or buy a equalizer or booster). You should limit HDMI/DVI runs to 50 foot or less to avoid sync. issues or green sparklies.

A/V Shawn 04-01-07, 04:48 PM Thanks, but already using the HDMI port of the HD1000 for my HD-DVD player. I already have a DVI-DVI cable run, so am thinking if there are no suggestions that work for me, my next step is to get a DVI-VGA adaptor for the HD1000's VGA connector and see if that changes the situation.
Am assuming that the weirdness I'm seeing now is due to the TV output of my video card and the user of a dongle and component cables. Otherwise, don't know what's going on since I have the latest Nvidia drivers and still there's appropriate resolutions for my card & HD1000.
Thanks,
Shawn
Projectorguy1 04-01-07, 08:50 PM I am also having problems through VGA getting sync. I am using an ATI card, at 1280x720 (60 Hz), with the HD1000U set in Real mode with overscan at 100%. It is the sharpest image I have been able to get so far. The problem is, I am guessing that I am losing sync - the projector blanks out and back on, sometimes switching the resolution setting (picture gets squashed or small) or back. I have tried forcing 720P on the ATI, forcing 60 Hz, and just began trying the fine sync on the projector.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Your best bet would be to get an inexpensive HDMI switcher, and feed both your PC and HD-DVD via HDMI to the Mits.
Many report that the Mits won't pixel map 1:1 pixel map to 720P over VGA, so the switcher is probably your best option.
I don't have any problems getting my Mits to lock to my 720p VGA out of my notebook, it just isn't a perfect 1:1 map. If you can live with that, and if the sync timing adjustments on the Mits don't yeild a stable picture, you could always load Powerstrip on your PC and try adjusting the H porch timings.

I will try that since I do have powerstrip, but just have not used it for a long time.

A/V Shawn 04-07-07, 11:18 AM Ok, I tried connecting from the:
- DVI of my video card to the HD1000 via a DVI/VGA adaptor on the HD1000 - won't work at all
- DVI of my video card via a DVI/HDMI adaptor to the HD1000 - works, but can not get a stable picture
Arrrrgh!
I do have Powerstrip and have played around with it, but maybe I don't know how to use it well. How do I adjust the appropriate settings to make this work (H porch, etc.)?
Appreciate any help. Ready to just move the PC out of the room back to a computer monitor at this point and give up... :(
A/V Shawn 04-07-07, 11:34 AM jrwhite,
Also, what do you mean exactly by the "sync timings on the Mits", am I missing some steps on the pj itself I should be doing? I thought the timings were set as shown in the HD1000 manual.
Thanks,
Shawn
A/V Shawn 04-07-07, 03:37 PM Ok, I see now that my Powerstrip app has the "advanced timings" button greyed out for some reason <sigh>, that's where the porch settings and other stuff is tweaked.
Is there anyone that is effectively using the HD1000U with their PC? Sure would like to know if it jus worked for you right off the bat or if there's specific measures you took to get it to work.
FYI, I'm not looking for a perfect image to use it for crisp text, etc. I just want a stable image that actually works reliably and isn't going to give me a headache or otherwise make it look obvious there's something wrong with the picture when I'm web browsing and playing games.
Thanks!

It works for me. Just using an old Nvidia card and a VGA connection. I don't think it's 1:1 pixel mapped, but it's certainly good enough for the limited stuff I do with it. I plugged it in, set the card output to 1280x720@60hz and it looked fine.
DVI->HDMI should work for HD1000u using 1280X720X60Hz for HTPC for 1:1 pixel mapping. If it does not work then update your video card drivers. If it still does not work then try Powerstrip and force 59.94 Hz refresh rate. Get a $30 monoprice.com switcher for HDMI switching. VGA does not work well at 1280X720X60Hz for 1:1 mapping on HD1000u for SOME video cards (some works fine while others won't sync. well--XGA is perfect though on VGA)
Mandy_Roppo 04-09-07, 05:57 AM I have not tried hooking a desktop to it, but two different laptops hooked up from the VGA perfectly. That was the only way for me to test HD content until I got my HD cable box. I think a video card that can do dual displays would have no problem because that is the only thing in common between the two laptops I tried.
