Does anyone know if there is anything that should be done once the old board is out and the replacement is installed?? Like maybe some init procedure? KFelon 10-22-09, 12:56 PM I recently bought a Blu-Ray Player and have an old Onkyo receiver without HDMI. Can anyone tell me if the LNT3242h will allow me to hook the Blu-Ray Player up via HDMI, then pass the audio out the TV's SPDIF Toslink output to my receiver? If so will it pass multiple channels or will it only pass the stereo channels? I have a HD-DVD Player and a XBox 360 already hooked into my receiver with a Toslink Splitter. Would I just be better off investing in one of those 3 way splitters and just have the audio directly go to the receiver? Thank you in advance for the help. mes444 10-22-09, 01:48 PM The audio which will be sent from the tv's optical out will be stereo. A three way splitter will be what you need. KFelon 10-22-09, 02:50 PM The audio which will be sent from the tv's optical out will be stereo. A three way splitter will be what you need. Short and to the point thank you kindly. I went ahead and ordered a cheap 3x1 bi-directional toslink switch from Monoprice. leukoplast 11-02-09, 02:57 AM Ok for all you Samsung 3253H owners I have a question. My TV recently started randomly blinking red while I am watching Blu-ray's (the small LED red light under the buttons). It will blink red every couple of mins. Sometimes it's a fast blink, other times its a little slower and stays on longer. Far as I can tell the TV is in great working order, nothing else odd has happened. I haven't changed anything in the settings, yet this problem just came up mysteriously. Anybody else experience this? I hope it's not a sign of it breaking or something, because I absolutely love this TV. I've tried searching all over google, but like usual I can't find a answer. KoRn 11-03-09, 03:21 PM The light is probably going out. If it does. The tv will still work fine. No biggie. Ballz2TheWallz 11-25-09, 08:09 PM Couple questions, I have my Xbox 360 inputing via VGA(pre-HDMI console) Game Mode: Does it reduce lag? If not, leave it off PC Mode: Does this change color space(16-235, 0-255)? What is the TVs default colorspace(if unchangable) for the VGA input?(IE do I set my reference levels on my xbox to standard or expanded) Also can anyone link me to 4053h settings for cable box(HDMI)? I've found the ones for the 32" but it seems a little off. Its the HD-DVR Motorola cable box that verizon hands out with fios. Wewpt 11-29-09, 07:07 PM I'm somewhat concerned and hesitant to even ask this question, usually responses range from rtfm to did you search? etc but, I'm really stuck. If anyone who reads this can assist and I have indeed missed a post or a thread, I would be grateful if they would provide it. I have looked and looked, but I cannot find anything specific that will help me. ----- I live in Canada, and use Rogers as my provider. My LN-T3253H is connected via HDMI to am Explorer 8300HD box. Typically I sit about 10-12 feet away from the tv if that is useful to know. Questions : There is a setup menu for the tv, and there is a setup process for the HD box. How do I configure these and in what order? I have tried various settings, but the best I seem to be able to get is 720p, which is great, but, the Guide menus on the HD box are tiny (ala not widescreen), and high def does not change to 1080 (should it do this automatically? I assume not, but I don't know). I have also noticed that sound seems to kick in and out, randomly. I have read reports of others having this issue, and as suggested I tried alternate HDMI ports and have replaced the HDMI cable 3 times (each, highly rated, and not cheap knockoffs). Can someone tell me the best settings for the tv itself, and if anyone has this setup, how they have the HD box configured? Are there any other options I can try to resolve the sound issue I am having? Thank you in advance, any links to relevant posts, urls, threads, useful input, would all pe greatly appreciated. Wewpt mes444 11-30-09, 09:33 AM I have an LNT 4053 so it's about the same tv. 1. Our tv is 720p, so the cable box set to 720p is fine. 2. The sound issue: I run an optical cable straight from my HD FIOS cable box to my receiver. Sound is perfect. I don't use the tv for sound. But I think your problem with sound, if you want to use the tv's speakers, can be overcome by replacing the HDMI cable with red/green/blue video-red/white audio cables. The HDMI, if I am rembering right, is the problem. Component pic is equal to HDMI pic, just be sure to adjust the component input's picture adjustments as settings don't transfer from input to input. 3. For tv setting, go back thru this thread as there a many suggestions. I have mine on movie, with most of the other setting near their mid points. Using standard will yield a somewhat sharper pic. Just don't keep the tv in Dynamic mode and get the backlight, brightness and contrast down to mid settings. Since then, I have not noticed any more sound dropouts. But now you can't just download the updated software from Samsung's website and put it on a USB drive, then into your TV, you have to contact them. First, you want to see what software version your TV is now using. Here are the instructions for finding which software/firmware version your TV is now using: 1. Turn on your TV. 2. Press the MENU button on your remote. 3. Select SETUP, and then press ENTER. 4. Select Function Help, and then press ENTER. 5. Use the Up or Down arrow button on your remote to move down to Function Help to ON, and then press the ENTER button. 6. With Function Help ON highlighted (don't actually push ENTER on it), press the INFO button on the remote. Your firmware revision will be listed as two lines of information. The TOP line is your software/firmware version. The BOTTOM line is the hardware revision number. Our TV's are different sizes, but I used to have firmware version 1019, now I have 1023. Here is the link to get the newer firmware/software: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/pop_troubleshooting.jsp?ia_cd=02010100&model_name=LN-T3253H focused313 12-04-09, 11:29 PM I have the 3242H. Bought it back in June of 2007. i have just started to notice a black line burned into my screen. It's consistent where the small resolution (non HD) channels box appears. I have brighthouse as my cable provider. Every HD channel comes in full 720p and fills up the screen. However, whenever I go to menu, it's in that smaller box. All the non HD channels have the two black bars on the sides. The only way to stop it is to go to Wide mode, but then the picture becomes horrid, both for non HD and HD channels. I've read countless times that watching tv with the black bars on the side could lead to a burn in, so I knew it could happen at some point. My question is there anything I can do about it now? I'll try to take a pic to show you guys exactly what it is, if I can even capture it. I got it from Best Buy w/ the 4 yr service plan, so I'm hoping they'll take it back or exchange it. Burn-in, as it occurs on CRts and plasmas, would tint the entire black boxes on both sides of the the 4X3 picture, not just a single line. I suspect that your warranty coverage will either try to fix your set, whatever it takes, or they will replace it with a remanufactured model of your set, but that's just my guess. Same thing happened to my 4042H two weeks before my extended warranty expired (Visa® Extended Warranty Protection Program). The authorized Samsung repair center told me it was panel delamination and that they'd even received a service bulletin regarding the issue. I had them fax a repair estimate for panel replacement to VISA and received a call from the claims adjuster a few days later informing me they would not pay for the repair but would instead issue me a check for the full amount of the original purchase price of the TV. The Samsung warranty clearly states that parts and labor, including panel, are covered for one year with in-home service for 32" and up. I purchased my Samsung in November of 2007 and I believe, from what the repairman told me, that this problem is not uncommon among sets made in that year. HTH I have the Best Buy Performance Service Plan (4 yr plan). I'd love to have a check issued for the full price (then I could upgrade to 40-50in 1080p tv; maybe even 120hz), but I'm fine with them repairing the one I have or just giving me a new comparable set. The problem with the repair aside from cost )replacing my panel would have been $918.00 according to the repairman), is that the panels made in 2007 are susceptible to this issue and it could recur. The claims adjuster at Visa recognized this and I'm sure it's what factored into their decision to issue the refund instead. I replaced the Samsung with a 46" 1080p 120hz (Sony) that I'm perfectly satisfied with. I assumed that Visa would want me to return the defective set, but when I asked about it, the claims adjuster suggested I just sell it for parts or dispose of it according to the requirements of my state (she actually apologized if the latter required a fee to be paid by me). I have no experience with BestBuy's warranty plan (I've never purchased any plan for electronics, relying instead on the extended coverage provided by Visa), so I'll be interested in how they handle it (please post the results if you don't mind). What you'll most likely need to provide to start the claims process is a copy of the Samsung warranty (showing the inclusion of the panel), the original receipt showing the total price of the TV and a repair estimate by an authorized Samsung repair center. Good luck and I hope this issue is resolved to your complete satisfaction. focused313 12-07-09, 02:38 PM The problem with the repair aside from cost )replacing my panel would have been $918.00 according to the repairman), is that the panels made in 2007 are susceptible to this issue and it could recur. The guy hooked up my tv and didn't see the black line and kind of looked at me like I was crazy. I told him to let the dvd play and of course, when certain colors are shown, the black line was prominent. He then connected a laptop with a blue background on the desktop and it was there, clear as day. I thought I was on the road to success, but I was let down again, only to be told that I have to call the 1-800 number (funny I didn't have to call any numbers when I gave them $1000 two years ago). The barely-english speaking tech talked to me for a while, until I requested I get another agent. Once I got the new agent, I was told that their techs make house calls (and house calls ONLY) on all sets over 25". What if I didn't want the Geek Squad in my house, then what? They definitely need to change that policy. So now I have an appointment tomorrow, so I'll see how that goes. CEB II 12-07-09, 03:38 PM How do I enroll in Visa's protection policy? The Visa/MC warranty extensions are a function of the card you have (i.e., not every credit card offers extended warranty protection, usually just the Gold and Platinum cards). The warranty kicks in when you make a purchase with that card. Note the warranty with the credit card isn't a manufacturer's warranty, the second year is through a third party warranty service, which is essentially what BB' and UE's extended warranties are also. miester 12-07-09, 05:36 PM Is it possibly to get images to burn-in on the LCD TV screen? My son said he saw this (or thought he did) on his TV a Samsung LN-T4042H. He watches a lot of TV on Standard Definition stations and he believes that the black bars have burn-in to his screen. I have a Samsung lnt3242hx lcd tv that has sound but no picture. If I shine a light on the screen, I can barely see a picture being played. Does anyone happen to know which part or board I might have to buy. Thanks. It sounds like the back light or the power inverter that powers the back lights went out. I do not believe this is a fix just anyone can do as you have to disassemble the screen and most florescent lighting contain mercury. On a lcd computer monitor there are 2 back lights, one at the top and another at the bottom of the screen. If it is in fact the lighting your best bet is to get a professional to look at it. bosanci28 12-23-09, 11:16 AM i have this tv samsung 32' ln-t3242h and when i plug it in it starts for 2,3 sec,,i can see the blury image with a lot of spots on the screen,,then it shouts down! can anyone tell me what my couse this? video board/main power supply or the inverter? any help i appreciate!!! thanks John E Quest 12-28-09, 02:24 PM So did what was recommended and called Samsung about the sound drop outs on my LN4042H. Spoke to 2 peeps on the phone who wanted me to unplug the tv and stand on my head. In the end they both stated Samsung no longer sends out firmware or gives links to firmware as that would make them responsible if I brick my tv. I told them they were responsible in the first place and the link proves they were aware of the issue. My tv is now serveral months out of warranty and the both refused to extend my warranty to get the tv fixed. They sugested I take it to a tv repair shop to get fixed. I was a fan of Samsung but I can tell you I will never buy another Samsung product and I have them all including washer and dryer again over this BS. If anyone has a link or email to get the software it would be appreciated I refuse to take it to a shop when I have already pais good money for the tv. I would attempt to update it and if bricked buy a new Sony or Sharp just for principle. This malady only occurs on KVCR, OTA channel 24-1, Riverside CA. The jerky video does not occur on any of KVCR's sub-channels, nor on any other channel. However, 2 years ago I had the same issue on KOCE, OTA channel 50-1, along with some major pixelizaton; without doing anything KOCE's problem eventually went away. The problem appears to be independent of signal strength which varies between 25-50%. There is no discussion of such jerky video on the Los Angeles OTA thread so I'm guessing it is an issue with the TV. Any suggestions? I actually just had your same problem. what u need to do is make sure you format your usb stick first using the FAT format. Not FAT32 and not NTFS. My memory stick previously had the FAT32 formatting and i wasnt able to update my LNT-3253H at all no matter how many different things I did. SVTarHeel 04-13-10, 11:53 AM I have a question re: a speaker rattle that seems to have developed in my LN-T4053H. According to Samsung's site, it was manufactured in October of 2007 and we bought it from Sears in December of 2007. Generally, the sound is set from 25 to 35. For the last couple of weeks, there's a rattle when the speaker is over 32 or 33, especially when there's a bass rumble. I'm guessing that it means a bad speaker or two but I didn't know if it was user replaceable or not. I searched the thread and couldn't find anything similar, so my apologies if this is common and I missed it somehow. I think I have a 3 year warranty from Sears - I'm also going to check on that but I've misplaced my receipt. Larry Parker 08-15-10, 06:11 PM Samsung has removed the update from their website. I don't know why. One time, long ago, I downloaded and installed the update to my LN-T4053h. After this TV came out, there were some complaints of the sound "dropping out" for a second or two once in a while. My TV did that, although I had no idea if the sound quitting for a second or two once in a while was caused by the TV station's signal, or if it was my TV that had an ocassional problem for a second or two. After I installed the firmware update, it did seem that I did not notice the TV sound "dropping out" nearly as often. So I guess my TV WAS the source of most or all of the sound dropouts, and I guess the updated firmward DID work. I did not notice any other changes to the TV after the firmware update. I'm primarily looking for gaming (PS3) settings... Also - I updated my fw to 1031 a long time ago, and and as far as I know there are no problems. Acid Snow 10-03-10, 08:09 PM 3 year review of Samsung's LN-T4642H :) This is my first post here... I consider myself to be a heavy researcher when it comes to new electronics, and I wanted to post my 4 year experience with Samsung's LN-T4642H, with my VGA-PC, HDMI-Xbox 360/PS3. I've owned this TV for the past 3 years! ...I'm what most of you would consider a videophile. These calibrations are literally years in the making :D But before I get to my calibration settings I want to mention the amount of usage this TV has gotten. Firstly I bought this model in November of 2007, my TV was manufactured in March of the same year. I've used my TV roughly 6 to 9hrs every single day, that equals 7,700 to 10,000hrs of actual usage (that's ~400 days) Back in the day, I bought this 46" TV new from Amazon for ~$1,600 based on CNET reviews of the smaller 32" version. ...I'll talk about picture quality later on, first I want to talk about its shortcomings. At ~12 months uniformity issues of brightness became apparent within top and bottom 1/2 inch of the screen (being more exponentially more prevalent leading up to the TV;s corners). These dim areas are ~10 to 15% dimmer than the middle of the screen. But since most of the action is in the center of the screen it's really not noticeable except when using the PC (such as on static white image, like when surfing the AVS forums). At ~18 months (in mid 2009) the TV's speakers stopped working, which was really odd, because the speakers were never used, they were always internally muted in the settings menu. But just before they gave out I was forced to use them for 2 weeks when my Klipsch ProMedia Ultra's bass cube burnt out (common problem with that product). ...So I needed to use the TV's speakers, which didn't last long: just in time for me to research and buy a $200 Yamaha 5.1 receiver and a $200 Polk Audio bass cube (and consequently salvage the 5 satellite speakers from the Klipsch system). At ~20 months the TV developed problems turning on after being off for more than ~6hrs. When trying to power it back on, the TV began producing the on/off clicking sound again-and-again from its' capacitor for up to a minute before powering on. The best solution to this problem is to NEVER turn it off! Simply reduce the TV's Backlight setting down to 0, this will greatly reduce power consumption. My TV has never had problems staying on, but to aid in reducing power consumption, my PC is connected (via the VGA input) which is set on a 15min delay before the PC turns goes to sleep and forces the the TV show "no signal," thus forcing the TV 'go to sleep' as well  Picture Quality: initially the manufacturer's settings looked 'OK,' but upon further inspection with the Xbox 360/PS3/PC it was deemed terrible; and CNET's recommended settings were also way-way off from an optimal setting ! ...Even with exhaustive calibration, the TV's reds are ever-so-slightly orange-ish (which visiting guests don't notice). This slightly orangish-red was made in favor of obtaining better a more accurate white-level (to prevent whites' from looking reddish), skin-tones nevertheless look fine. For an LCD from March 2007 the blacklevels are actually quite impressive :p, but by no means are they truly 'black.' During the past 3yrs the overall brightness of the TV has dimmed noticeably down to probably 70 or 75% of its' original max brightness. ...However, it's still formidably bright enough when in most household setting. The following settings apply to a VGA-PC and an HDMI-Xbox 360/PS3. Note that your Xbox's display resolution within the Dashboard's Settings menu should be set at "Optimal Resolution," which consequently is 1360*768 (which is the same resolution your VGA-PC will run at [even though this TV is rated at 1366*768]). And the Reference Level should be set to Expanded (to display full 0-255 blacks-whites). Picture Menu... Mode: Movie dynamic forces the use of the awful DNIe setting, and Standard destroys high colors Contrast: 98 any higher and whites bleach out Brightness: 38 any brighter and blacks begin to brighten (some PS3 sources may oddly require a setting of 48) Backlight: 10 a value of 6 erroneously displays the same Backlight brightness as a value of 8 Color Tone: Cool1 this is important if you want to obtain white-whites, and not reddish-whites Detailed Settings: Black Adjust: Off, Dynamic Contrast: Off, Gamma: 0, Color Space: Auto otherwise blues turn green, White Balance: (R/G/B-Offset: 14/13/15 respectively raising any color value above 15 results in blacks showing an unnatural amount of that color, R/G/B-Gain: 15/15/15 respectively, My Color Control: (Pink: 12, Green: 12, Blue: 15, White: 30 white at 30 is very important to overall picture accuracy when combined with all other settings listed here), Edge Enhancement: On edge enhancement is surprisingly important for Xbox/PS3 usage, in order to keep the picture crisper, no input-lag has ever been observed Setup menu... Game Mode: Off utterly awful, never use game mode on this TV Home Theater PC: On this allows you to obtain the "Detailed Settings" sub-menu mentioned above for PC sources Energy Saving: Off HDMI Black Level: High this value basically adjusts the default-internal brightness of the TV; shifting it roughly 12 values. SVTarHeel 10-20-10, 02:04 PM At ~20 months the TV developed problems turning on after being off for more than ~6hrs. My 4053H has started doing this periodically, after being off overnight. Another, more disturbing problem, is the appearance of solid white and green spots, as well as shooting green lines. These also often appear after it's been off for a while. If I let it stay on for a couple of minutes, then turn it off and back on, it's fine - and stays that way for the rest of the day. I think I have 3 more months of warranty. I'm assuming I'd better take advantage of it. Anyone have any insight as to my spots and lines? mes444 10-20-10, 03:01 PM The turning on problem is probably the bulging capacitors on the power board that has become a common problem on Samsungs after a few years. Samsung may be replacing the board out of warranty, but if you still have the warranty, get it fixed. The other things may also be a result of the power board going out, so after getting it fixed, let us know if they go away also, in case we all start having similar problems. azncrazycooler 11-23-10, 10:53 AM I was playing with the contrest, and I notice it only has 10 nochs of settings. Follow up to my previous post: The above mentioned "pop" and electrical smell was one of the capacitors exploding. It's not terribly uncommon, tho not the typical clicking. I called Samsung CS last week as the tv had started having start up issues also. They sent the repair guy out today, and four of the small capacitors were bulging with one having a very small brown spot in the crosshair of the cross at the top, that's the one which popped. The new board he put in had larger capacitors which he said all the new boards now have. Repair guy said if you have one of these models, you will have failed capacitors. So just know that they will cover it and now the tv works fine again. I appreciate Samsung fixing my over three year old tv without any problems or charge. My research on the problem points to many brands of tvs having the same issue, I don't know how the others are handling it, but Samsung is still my favorite tv brand due to great picture quality and good CS. SVTarHeel 01-19-11, 04:36 PM I called Samsung CS last week. I think I need to do the same. Can you give any specifics on the process - what number did you use, what questions did they have, how was the 'repairability' verified by the CS rep? Thanks a ton for any help! mes444 01-19-11, 06:17 PM I called 1-800-726-7864, which is Samsung's main CS number. I told them my tv wasn't starting up correctly. They asked if it was clicking and I said no, the red light on the front was just flashing way too long. And I told them I'd read about the capacitor problem on line. Then they read you a disclaimer about it being a one time repair and if it's not the capacitors you will be charged a service call by the repair place. You say yes if you are sure that is the problem and that's it. They are completely aware of the capacitor issue and are willing to fix it. They will ask for your tv's serial number as the extended warranty is restricted to specific years of production, I think 2007 and 2008. So if your serial number is covered, they will notify a local repair shop in your area, they will give you their name and number and the repair shop should call you within two days. You also get an email with a tracking site to follow your order. So I guess the only issue would be, you need to be sure it's the capacitors which cause the tv to start up too slowly or not at all. Other issues will cost you the service call. Hope that helps. SVTarHeel 01-19-11, 10:18 PM Thanks for the info. I wonder what they mean by clicking... My TV *is* clicking in one respect - it usually takes 3 sets of clicks before it will finally turn on. But, if they mean it just stays blank with a click-click-click sound, that's not it at all. Additionally, about 1 out of every 15 times or so, it will start with various lines of multicolored dashes on the screen. A quick off/on fixes it. Before I start the process, if anyone has any thoughts on the capacitors being the probable cause of these symptoms, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance. mes444 01-20-11, 09:03 AM It sounds like the capacitors. As I said, mine didn't even click, just had problems turning on. Don't overthink it as 99 to 1, it's the capacitors and they change out the board anyway. It can effect your tv pic if it's getting bad enough, read over the below link and he talks about pic problems on his tv caused by the capacitors. It seems there is no one symptom except the difficulty turning on. If you want, you can open the back of the tv and there is an 8" X 8" board where the power plug goes. On the board you can clearly see the capacitors on the upper right side. If they are bulging at the tops, that's it. That's about the only 100% way you can tell, but I just called as I felt sure it was the problem. Check the link below to a more complete description of the problem with pictures: http://www.crovean.net/samsung-lcd-tv-power-up-problem izzo305 01-21-11, 02:10 PM So i've had my lnt3242 Samsung for 3 years now without any problems but the other day the volume started to go down by itself and it's now stuck on 0, showing the volume box all the time. SVTarHeel 01-28-11, 12:51 AM Thanks for the help. As you figured, it was the capacitors. As it turned out, I got lightning fast response... I called about 3:15pm Monday. The Samsung CS rep set up the service call. I got a call about 9am Tuesday morning from the repair tech that covers this area - it turned out he was nearby that day and wanted to come by at 3pm. We agreed on that. He called back around lunch time to say that his GPS indicated that he'd be driving right by me on the way to another call (we live in a pretty large zip code) and I said he could come on over. I have 1020 on it now. notfound123 03-02-11, 11:52 PM Guys, it's been a while since I posted here... Years ago these tvs had a famous "tearing" issue. Then capacitors. Well, recently, my LNT4042H started making clicking sounds, takes 15-20 seconds to power on. I bought it back in 2007, so no warranty. Does anyone know if Samsung still fixes these, out of warranty? I am pretty sure they did at some point (when it was a wide spread issue) as a friend of mine fixed his about a year ago free of charge. notfound123 03-02-11, 11:54 PM Guys, it's been a while since I posted here... Dragonlupin 03-15-11, 11:17 AM [QUOTE=mes444;19630347]Go to the Samsung download link below and search for your tv. thank you but there's no firmwares available for that model. i'm gonna contact Samsung if they can help me out with that issue. UPD: contacted Samsung thru webchat twice. first contact wasn't successful - tech told me no firmwares available for that particular model. the second one was super helpful. a tech asked for current firmware version then i got a link to firmware download. Do you have the link to the download? I asked them and they gave me the runaround. SVTarHeel 03-15-11, 10:04 PM I've got a dumb question. I posted a couple of months ago about having my LN-T4053H repaired for the capacitor issue. For the last 6-8 months, the sound was quite 'scratchy' at volumes above 32 or so. I got in the habit of never going above 30 but still bought a sound bar. I was waiting to get the TV fixed before putting it all together. Now, I've noticed that the sound is fine at previously scratchy levels. Is there a logical chance that the capacitor repair fixed the sound issue as well? Coincidence? Temporary reprieve? Thanks for any thoughts. mes444 03-16-11, 10:27 AM Dragon, Whenever I have had problems with downloads, either finding or doing, I call their tech support dept and ask for a usb with the download on it. In the past they have sent them, so if you can't find it, and the one you want is probably too old to be on their active servers, maybe the tech support people can help. usabrian 05-29-11, 05:03 PM Does anyone know about using the optical output on this TV? I don't have a HDMI receiver. I tried inputting HDMI to the tv directly and outputting optical to my receiver simply for hooking my laptop up but could not get any sound. SVTarHeel 06-17-11, 11:41 PM I hope the dumb questions department is open... I have an LN-T4053H. I recently added an HDMI source and now have 5 connections to the TV. I've looked through the manual and can't find any way to change directly from source to source. If I'm watching a DVD, I have to cycle around 4 clicks to get to the antenna feed. I was hoping there's either a popup menu that will select whatever source I want or some other more direct way than cycling through the pressing of the source button, but I've had no luck finding anything. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim1348 06-18-11, 09:27 AM I have two Samsung LN-T1953Hs. Does anybody happen to know if any software updates have very been released for this? I know it seems like a strange question, but I seem to recall reading that there is a USB port in case there is a firmware update, but I have never heard of any being released. haggis444 06-21-11, 08:22 AM I have the DL for the LNT3242HX. PM me if you need it. Jim1348 06-21-11, 05:53 PM I have the DL for the LNT3242HX. PM me if you need it. What changes were made? Jim1348 06-21-11, 05:53 PM I have a Dell Dimension 2350 desktop computer with a GeForce 8400 GS video card. It is operating on Windows 7 (32 Bit) and is connected to a Samsung LNT1953H. The display shows up as a Generic Non-PnP monitor in the Control Panel. When I have used others computers and monitors, I think they usually list more specific detail. While I am certainly no computer expert, does this mean the drivers are more specific when they identify which particular monitor is in use? If so, how to I get those? Medicine_Man 06-27-11, 05:46 AM I have the LNT1953H hooked up to my PC running Win7 too and the Win7 control panel sees that monitor as a "Generic PnP Monitor." The Nvidia control panel does identify the monitor as "Samsung." If there was a specific driver for the monitor, Win7 could identify the brand and model. Since everything seems to be working just fine without a Samsung specific driver, I have not bothered to inquire about one. Jim1348 06-27-11, 06:02 AM Are you connected by a VGA cable or do you use an HDMI cable? Medicine_Man 07-08-11, 04:40 PM VGA cable. 2 Bunny 08-30-11, 12:52 PM Sorry to bump this thread, but I've got a question on this set: We've been using it as a second monitor for a few years, and now we're not getting anything on the VGA input. What happens is, you can switch to VGA, and it'll say "searching for signals", and then the screen will immediately go dark and the backlight will shut off. When I unplug the VGA cable, it will say "check cable", and then the screen will actually stay on with "check cable" flying around the screen (for the record, I can still view the cable input just fine). I managed to get a firmware update from somewhere to take after 5 tries and managed to upgrade apparently from version 1014 to 1023. I suspect the VGA cable, and I won't be able to try that until tomorrow. If anyone has seen this happen before or know the symptoms, please don't hesitate to post. Thanks. - 2 Bunny BRTWO 09-21-11, 09:44 PM Bought my T3242H 4 years ago. Just recently tried to use the HDMI and Svideo connections (yeah, I am slow on the upswing with technology). Of course they are not working properly (no picture or sound) and when I called Samsung to get a firmware update (hoping for a miracle fix) I was promptly told they do not support the model any longer. No firmware updates available. Hoping someone here has one laying around you can email me. I would be very grateful. I don't know for sure if it is the newest version though and I had a heck of a time finding one that would actually work. If you want, I can try and dig that up, but in the meantime you can use the composite inputs for your standard def needs (they look almost same as SVideo) and the component and VGA inputs for your HD needs (they look just as good as HDMi, if not better). Hope you get it sorted out - ironically I'm in the opposite boat right now and am not getting anything on the VGA input that's been working for forever, it just stopped one day and the firmware I installed did not fix it. I hope you get yours figured out. - 2 Bunny 2 Bunny 11-22-11, 06:00 AM Any updates on this? - 2B 2 Bunny 11-26-11, 04:03 PM Any updates on this? - 2B 2 Bunny 12-11-11, 08:18 PM Somebody? Anybody? I tried to go from VGA on this to either a DVI to HDMI from computer to Samsung LN-T1953H, but it looked terrible. Has anybody here tried using the Samsung LN-T1953H as a computer monitor with either DVI or HDMI and had it look okay? I gather from previous posts here that Samsung no longer supports this, but it would be nice to have this look better as a computer monitor with the newer cable standard. 2 Bunny 12-23-11, 03:43 PM I am just following up on a post I did here earlier this year. We actually did the same thing after the VGA port on our's just stopped working and just gave us a black screen when we'd try to activate the VGA input - what'd yours do? For the record, we bought a DVI-HDMi cable adapter for a few dollars and plugged that in and it worked. If your picture is looking crummy, make sure you've picked the right resolution (it's either 1360x768 or 1366x768 - I'd have to double check to know for sure), and if you don't see either of those options, check the NVidia control panel (that was what I did wrong when I set it up). Hope it works out for you. - 2B Jim1348 12-24-11, 12:36 AM Mine works fine on VGA, but not good on DVI-HDMI. I will get some more time soon and make sure I have picked the right resolution. (either 1360x768 or 1366x768 -should be close enough). I will check the NVidia control panel, too, to see what options it may have. Thank you for the reply! You'd be surprised how much difference those six pixels can make. I've used monitors where it was just a little bit off and it looked terrible. Thanks. - 2 Bunny Lately, we've developed a new symptom after we used the DVi/HDMi output on the graphic card: the television refuses to acknowledge the HDMi input. Here's what happens: We've got only two things hooked up to it: The DTV cable line and the computer (formerly through the VGA input as described above) now plugged into HDMi. The last time the telly was powered up, it changed itself over to the rarely used DTV cable line, and hitting the "source" key just brought up an error about having no input devices connected. Just to experiment, we used a different HDMi cable and hooked up an Xbox 360. After we powered it up, the Samsung would let us switch to the HDMi input, where we could see the 360's dashboard just fine. When we disconnected the Xbox 360, we reconnected the HDMi cable coming from the computer, and its contents appeared on the screen right away, so we switched sources to the DTV cable line, and then tried to switch back again to the HDMi, but just got the same error that we got before. Weird, huh? Things I haven't tried because I lack the equipment are trying a different HDMi cable and computer. Any suggestions in the meantime to fix either issue? Thanks. - 2 Bunny 2 Bunny 04-20-12, 01:51 PM Any updates on this? Thanks. - 2B AAudio 05-19-12, 01:11 PM I had the cap problem and repaired it about 1 year ago. All is well but this morning only on 1 channel I see a green bar taking up about 25 percent of the tv on the right hand side. Odd thing is it is only on 1 channel but it doesn't seem to be a station problem as all other Tvs in my home as well as friends doesn't seem to have the problem. Anyone had this problem? Fix?
