What are some of the best S-VHS VCR'S for dubbing to DVD RECORDERS? ANY IDEAS would be welcome or suggestions on different S-VHS VCR's. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

the best s-vhs / vhs vcr to use to dub the tapes is the machine that originally record the tape. Do a search this was discussed to some degree about 6-8 months ago.

S-VHS machines have been in declining availability for some time now. With the federally mandated ATSC tuner law now in force, these machines will be even harder to get as retailers attempt to dump their existing stock. I'm not aware of any S-VHS or VHS machines coming to market with integrated ATSC tuners. You might want to try ebay or get a combo VHS/DVD unit. JVC and Sony were my manufacturers of choice when it came to S-VHS decks. Good luck.

I would think in the future you will be able to find S-VHS players, especially if you look in the professional line of products for JVC and Sony. Seems a player only will be in demand for a while (and possibly a recorder only...thinking security, time lapse, etc). No tuners are needed for either of these.

These s-vhs players will they playback the standard vhs tape in improved quality over the standard vhs tape?

improved quality? Garbage in, garbage out....you may notice a slight difference, but don't expect miracles.

Standard VHS tapes DO look significantly better, when played back over a SVHS machine, using S-Vid outs. Still not as good as true SVHS though. New SVHS machines are getting scarce. I think B&H Photo had a multiformat JVC SVHS machine. JVC is probably the only one still making SVHS machines. But, you might want to look into D-VHS machines, as they will play back SVHS tapes, over an S-Vid out. Last time I checked, there were some Mitsubishis available for far less than their original price.
