Hello,

I have a cheap Trutech DVD Recorder. I've lost the remote. I can't get a new one. When I put DVD's into it, it wants to format the disk. I don't have dvd recorder controls to say "ok". If the DVD was already formatted, I could record on it.

How can I format my DVD's to record using my computer instead?

If you are talking about formatting RWs for VR mode, I am pretty sure that is brand-specific and therefore can't be done with a pc.

I would instead try to replace the remote or see if any programmable / universal remotes will let you control the Trutech.

Or, be sure you can't control the menu from the front panel. You often can even if it's not obvious. For instance, on some devices the channel +/- and FW / REW will be the up / down / left / right and there will be menu and exit buttons. Menu = ok or enter in my experience.

Good luck,
Mike

I would definitely attempt to get a replacement remote. Having a unit like a DVD recorder without a remote seems very limiting, at least to me. Replacement remotes are not all that expensive.

Trutech Remotes (http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&mode=brand&brand=Trutech&uid=A11755479575621)

These guys have Trutech remotes, but they seem a bit high. If you will search the net by specific model# you may well find one much cheaper.

Thank you all for your input.

I looked around for replacement remotes, and could not find one site. thanks for that site. However, I don't want to spend 40.00 bucks on a remote, when the dang DVD recorder only cost 99.00. I have another idea. Could I take a DVD that I used already, that has content on it that I burned using the DVD recorder, and then make an image out of that? Could I then remove the video files from that image, and make that image a DVD formatted image?

I would put in a Blank DVD in my computer and burn that image on the DVD, and not close the disk.

I'll let you know if this works.

I found my remote. All is well. It was hiding in a bag, I'm sure I searced in many many times. :)
