I decided to start this thread as a spot to post information regarding HD broadcasts on the island of Maui.

I have both TW cable and D* currently and have also been investigating over-the-air (OTA) reception of DTV/HD content.

At present all of the local channels expect for CBS (KGMV) are re-broadcast over the TWC system in HD.

The D* system is currently only broadcasting SD as the local channels on the system.

It appears that no OTA DTV is available yet on Maui. KGMB has an antenna to allow for re-transmission of the signals here on the island, but it is currently not active.

Does anyone know the timeframe for the locals to begin re-transmitting their DTV here on Maui??

I have gotten an update regarding DTV/HD broadcast on Maui over-the-air by the CBS affiliate, KGMB.

From the head of engineering at KGMB:

"We are in the process of building a new transmission site at Ulupalakua Ranch. In June 2007 we will fire up a brand new analog transmitter on channel 3. This will be replaced in February of 2009 with a digital transmitter capable of high-definition broadcast on channel 24.1.

The only high-definition broadcast of KGMB9 available today is from Oahu on digital 22.1. "

Bummer....that means no DTV/HD OTA until right at the cutover deadline of Feb 2009. I guess that leaves either TWC or D* signing a deal to pickup the HD feed.

Since KGMB was just sold, I guess there is a chance of an accelerated schedule by the new owners.

Do you have any updates with regards to the HD OTA situation on Maui? I am thinking about setting my folks up with a converter.
